Putin has less disdain for America than Obama has. Obama wants to destroy America while Putin doesn’t. He just doesn’t want us to destroy Russia. Obama doesn’t care who goes down, as long as America goes down with them.

Wake up Boehner and McConnell! Get off your dead behinds and re-establish the Republican party and fight this cretin head on. Americans who vote Conservative demand it. You're a disgrace to your country and two more willing sycophants I've yet to see.

.....which is what White House insider Lawrence Cobb believes. He noted that we spend ten times as much money on our military as the Russians spend on theirs, and that “We’d clean their clocks. Russian troops are not that good. They are not as modern.”

This man is a certified effing idiot. Ask a US pilot if he wants to go up against a current generation double digit SAM or the newest one.......

Obama isn’t willing to defend America against anybody, so it doesn’t matter what our military capability might be.

I agree with you and would add:

Russia has several initial advantages in a conventional conflict in Europe with NATO.

Russia has a distinct numerical (if not quality) advantage in armor, interior lines, surprise, and concentration of force against an enemy which must be spread out in the shape of a horseshoe. Russia can easily concentrate overwhelming force at an identifiable target area and overwhelm it, at least initially. I think that is why we recently sent warthogs to the theater to try to balance distinct advantage the Russians possess in tanks and interior lines and concentration of force.

Russia also has the advantage of fighting Napoleon's favorite enemy, allies. The strength of the NATO alliance is probably a myth. It is impossible to believe that modern Europeans are going to unite and fight doggedly for any principle or any identifiable piece of soil which is not their own. It might be true that in the long run the overwhelming and qualitatively superior forces of the USA would prevail but only after local success by the Russians making it very difficult to eject them. Many Europeans, my neighbors not excluded, believe that the true enemy is the United States and not Russia. Finally, no one has confidence in the the American administration which is an indispensable element if NATO is to function and vital if NATO is to deter.

However, the Pentagon’s dire assessment may be less of a warning, and more of a desperate plea to stop cutting their budget

More evidence that the whole 'Russian aggression' meme was ginned up to boost defense spending.

Short of a nuclear war, Russia is not well positioned for a large conventional war. And they would be badly bloodied.

We aren’t going to invade Russia, and that is the only scenario that they are really capable of pulling off.

If they moved into the Baltics and Poland, they would have a real fight. Poland would, by itself, put up a hell of a fight and, forgetting about NATO for a second, I don’t see the Czechs, Slovakians, Hungarians, Romanians, or Bulgarians standing by to be the next target.

Although Russia would roll through the Baltics in a surprise attack, we would no longer have a tacit agreement to not arm the resistance. There would be a serious war of resistance, and the Russians could not leave those areas lightly defended.

Finland and Sweden would likely immediately join NATO, and that Finnish border would suck off a lot of Russian capability.

Russian tanks have never faired well against Western tanks. They would take tremendous losses, and I’m not sure that the Russian conscripts would have much of a stomach for moving forward.

Russian commerce on the high seas would be totally at the mercy of the USN. Russia’s attack submarine fleet is a shadow of the USSRs, with only 9 SSGNs and 19 SSNs, many of which are not currently sea worthy. Tho affect the movement of U.S. heavy armor to Europe, these submarines would have to run the UK-Iceland-Greenland Gap against 70+ American, French, and British SSNs.

U.S. CVNs would prevent any

All American and Canadian light units and personnel could be moved by air using civil assets, inside of two days (although, logistics considerations would obviously not allow that level. However, those same civil air assets could be used to supply the forces in place with their own weight in bullets and beans, every single day.

NATO attack aircraft coming out of Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey, in combination wih naval units moving into the Black Sea, would quickly desimate the Russian Black Sea Fleet and provide close air support for a Ukrainian put on the Crimea, forcing the Russians to commit or retreat there.

Long story short, the threat from a Russian conventional attack is the West’s will to fight, not their capacity to do so.

“Putin has less disdain for America”

I’ve noticed that too. Leave him alone to take care of his backyard and he’s content with that and most likely would leave us alone to also do what’s needed in our hemisphere, if we could muster up the gonads to do so. Totally different from Soviet leaders of the past who simply wanted to take us out.

Hardly surprising since the American people decided to elect ‘60’s hippies to make decisions for them.

Well, we may not be able to quite beat Russia in an all out conventional war, but our military will sure look fabulouth on the way to the battlefield!
