Trump: Deport children of immigrants living illegally in US

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump wants more than a wall to keep out immigrants living in the country illegally. He also wants to end "birthright citizenship" for their children, he said Sunday. And he would rescind Obama administration executive orders on immigration and toughen deportation, allowing in only "the good ones."

Trump described his expanded vision of how to secure American borders during a wide-ranging interview Sunday on NBC's "Meet The Press," saying that he would push to end the constitutionally protected right of any family living illegally inside the U.S. ...

One can say “The Constitution needs to be amended and we need a change in the 14th amendment.”

He could still be for this position, but yeah, he'd have to either argue for a Constitutional amendment or simply say that he would appoint the kind of judges who would interpret the 14th amendment differently (ie, that would not say it allows birthright citizenship). He is probably better off going with the Supreme Court nomination argument. We know such a constitutional amendment will never pass, and if he focuses on the judges it will give conservatives a reason to believe he will be solid on court nominations.

I disagree. Even the most apolitical voter understands the concept of the anchor baby. I hardly doubt this is considered radical to the average voter.

The 14th does not give illegal aliens any right to citizenship at birth...

If the illegal alien parents are from Mexico then the new baby born here is Mexican..a citizen of Mexico...

Just as Ted Cruz, the child of American parents, although born in Canada was an American citizen at birth...

Maybe you should advise Trump to change his tone and only use sanitized arguments employing legally unassailable constitutional law arguments.

So are you saying the US Supreme Court would support a law overturning birthright citizenship? Because until you can get the Supreme Court to do that then we are stuck with the current interpretation. As of now this is the law “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” With some exceptions in case law for diplomats and such, the US Supreme Court continues to support birthright citizenship. So yes, you’d either need a constitutional amendment (ain’t gonna happen) or better judges. Probably better to go the latter route.

And Trump can’t just do it by “fiat,” either.

He dropped in the latest Fox News poll from a higher mark.

He dropped by one point, and his closest competitors Cruz and Carson don't even equal his lead if they combined together. Carson will never be on the top of the ticket and is Trump's closest competitor right now, and with Trumps immigration plan, his support is probably going to go up another 9 points.
