Donald Trump has a wide lead over his Republican presidential campaign rivals in Alabama, with the businessman and "The Apprentice" star picking up the support of 30 percent of GOP primary voters in the state, according to a poll released Thursday.

Trump's closest opponent, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, had 15 percent of support in the poll conducted by Strategy Research on behalf of WKRG.

Trump strong in Alabama as he is in other southern states cited in earlier FR threads.

Between Trump and Cruz, that’s almost 40% of the votes cast in the poll.

I am going to start adding their numbers together when I look at polls coming up. Should be interesting.

While the Trump lead isn't surprising, it's disturbing to see Senator Cruz making it to only 7%. Ted Cruz is the only true Southerner in the list (Huckabee has repudiated the values of Dixie with his liberalism). My hope is that this poll was a statistical wobble and that Cruz will get well into the double digits. He adheres to the Constitution and will restore America's foundational Biblical principles.

Wow. I don’t understand why Rubio is ahead of Cruz in Ala.

Cruz made a bus run with stops throughout Alabama just this week. He is building a foundation. Unfortunately, having both Carson and Cruz keeps both of their numbers lower than John Ellis Bush's.

I don't buy this poll.

How can Bush be polling that high?

My point entirely (see prior post in this thread). Our fine Texan, Senator Ted Cruz, has been emphasizing the South in his campaign, drawing impressive crowds in Dixie. I think no one captures the values of Christianity and Conservatism that are part and parcel of Alabama (”The Heart of Dixie”) better than Cruz. I'm sure this poll is but a one-off aberration.

Many weeks to the next debate. Look for Trump to increase his lead in the meantime despite the press munchkins biting at his ankles.

3,500 people statewide responded on August 11 to the telephone poll. It has a margin of error of two-percent.

Looks like a poll sponsored by CBS Channel 5 in Mobile. The Trump percentage is in line with an earlier post that showed results for all southern states.

Trump is gonna win this thing. And go on to defeat Biden or Sanders. Hillary’s a goner.

Retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson, who has arguably spent the most time in Alabama of any of the 17 GOP presidential candidates, was tied for third in Alabama with Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. Carson and Rubio both had 11 percent in the poll.

Thanks for that useful information and it explains why they pushed the Cruz numbers so low.

“My hope is that this poll was a statistical wobble and that Cruz will get well into the double digits. He adheres to the Constitution and will restore America’s foundational Biblical principles.”

It’s not. I haven’t seen any polls that show Cruz above 5th place. Right or wrong, he isn’t connecting as well as he probably should.

My personal suspicion is that he already recognizes that and is working a southern campaign strategy in loose cooperation with another candidate.
