You’re right, we shouldn’t insult this former POTUS but...it is VERY tempting! I’ll hold off for now but it will be difficult,

This is NOT the time to take verbal jabs at this man. Freepers are better than that

This man is a despicable human being - selling out his country for personal gain. When do you think its a better time to call a spade a spade, after he's dead? Let him answer to god for his actions after he's dead. For now, the light should shine on his dirty dealings.

“Jimmy was no Christian. Hew as not a nice man. And he befriended tyrants and those who persecuted, tortured, and exterminated their people.”

Carter got money and got rich from those tyrants and their countries. Another man with a corrupt foundation, raking in the big bucks from foreign sources, the forerunner of the Clintons.

Will he have a Palestinian flag draped on his coffin?

What sealed the deal for me was when Carter really got ugly in his debate with Reagan. He lost the only thing that he had going for him and that he was a nice guy.

Then he refused access to the Shah.

I remember the Shah being exiled to Egypt and then reports of his NHL cancer....I also remember Jimmy Carter deciding to admit the Shah to the US for treatment, against advice from Embassy and State Department staff.

In the modern era, Carter was the first president to openly publicly denigrate his successor in office. He has never possessed one bit of class or humility. His medical condition is between him, his God, and his doctors so no comment on that. He is and has always been despicable as a US citizen.

By no means have I ever thought highly of Jimmy Carter. I remember him as governor of my state. I was only commenting on his action to allow the Shah here for medical treatment in response to a post that implied he didn’t.

I understand your point and realize you aren’t giving him plaudits. I am old enough to remember him telling Americans we had a malaise (which he largely caused) and interest rates over 20%.. Talk about a president helping the middle class... NOT

And I remember NOT voting for him for Governor in Georgia.

ONCE I voted for Carter; but when he sat & chided me for my “malaise”, I thought, “fooey on this”, voted for Reagan & have never looked back. - Carter’s in the hands of the Good Lord; not mine. - Me wishing anything on him, good or bad, is irrelevant.

Prayers for this sick man, regardless of his politics.

Cancer sucks, and I would not wish it even on my enemies.

One day I hope that we are able to rid the world of this illness.

I wasn’t aware of that. Thanks for the mention.

I knew he had a foundation, but I wasn’t in tune with how he was using it.

Your memory was sure better than mine.

It is true that Carter let him him in for a very brief period of time. He then refused to allow the Shah back in to have his spleen removed.

I did not remember that.

Remember that cancer treatment can’t be facilitated in a few days, so I’m not sure what great favor Carter did here. Nothing much good could have come of it.

I should have credited Carter more than I did, but the fact is he still refused him long term treatment which is required.

Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

I sure didn’t remember it that way.

Do you remember the Shah pleading to come to the U. S. to obtain cancer treatment? I do. Carter drug out the decision and said NO.

Huh? Carter denied the Shah's initial request to enter the U.S. shortly after he was deposed (which had nothing to do with cancer treatment). But in October 1979, when the Shah asked for permission to enter for treatment, he was allowed in (and was in fact treated in NY).

Your late response on the thread was preceded by an acknowledgement of that fact.

Another poster brought it to my attention. I didn’t remember it.

I placed corrective posts on each thread I stated what I did, and included a link to some information on the topic.

It is also true that he was only allowed to stay a short period of time.

A subsequent request to enter the nation to have his spleen removed was denied.

My correction post is two above your response to my initial comment. Here is a link.

I appreciate the mention. I was wrong.

Apologies - your post caught my eye as I read through the thread, and I made the mistake of replying without reading the rest of the thread first. My mistake.
