This airline is going to start weighing passengers before flight (a non-U.S. airline)

On one airline, a trip in flight will also involve a trip to the scale.

Uzbekistan Airways announced recently it would begin pre-flight weighing of passengers to determine the average weight of passengers and their carry-on luggage.

It appears that the procedure is strictly for research purposes and will aid the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in ensuring flight safety. Passengers will be asked to proceed through a weighing machine in the departure gate zone.

The record of passenger weights will remain anonymous, according to the airline. Instead, weights will be categorized by gender or age, if the passenger is a child.

The International Air Transport Association and Uzbekistan Airlines did not immediately respond for comment.

I've often wondered about this myself.

The puddle jumpers I rode in in the 90’s did this by eyeball. If there was a fat person in the passenger load they sat them in a particular spot. On the fly as we were loading up.

Well, forget them!

Do they also want my age?

Wonderful idea. How soon can US airlines adopt this approach?

The bigger you are - the more you should pay.

But....

You should pay more for seats that actually fit you.

Does the Wookie get weighed when she get loaded on a cargo plane for her fancy vacations?

95th percentile kinda stuff...but accuracy is important.

One way to achieve “accuracy” is data.

Maybe they’re looking at updating their weight sheets to match what they’re actually flying.

Who knows, pretty soon, anyone who flies may be paying by the pound/kilogram...

When they get to the point of charging by the pound, will we see puke stations upstream of the scales where the cheapskates work on getting their avoirdupois to the minimum?

I’m more than a little curious as to how well the passengers on Uzbekistan Airways represent the world-wide flying population.

Better LoadMaster planning for better fuel efficiency, and Center of Gravity planning for the aircraft.

You know that butt requires two seats alone...

Given her typical cache of 4000+ lb of luggage, it’s unlikely her personal avoirdupois is much of a factor.

Sure. I'd fly them.

Doesn’t take into account the 145 lb. woman who carries on a 80 lb. suitcase and a 30 lb. purse filled with cr@p.

I’ve had to do this for private flights at work sites.

Not a bad idea if the government doesn’t mandate it and the airline provides full disclosure in what is doing. I would love to fly on an airline that has leg room, shoulder room, smoking hot and friendly flight attendents, a cigar lounge, fine dining, and doesn’t nickel and dime you on baggage and any extras. Of course, all of that at a low price.

“You should pay more for seats that actually fit you.”

Amen to that. At the prices they charge for plane tickets nowadays, I can really do without the complimentary flab cushion overflowing from my neighbor’s armrest.

Even if everybody on earth loses weight to meet the NWO order weight guidelines they’ll choose something else to focus on after they’ve got that nailed down. Maybe financial status. All citizens with less than $5m won’t get to own anything other stackable eco-friendly cubipods with one window and a cooling unit that is powered by a solar panel. Tis admiistration has taughtus one very valuable lesson - never trust a liberal or give them free reign in society. They’ll make a thousand laws and regulations for everyone else to follow them but themselves and use the laws to line their own pockets if possible.
