Parents, gender equality advocates welcome news as significant step

(CNN) —Attention Target shoppers: Say goodbye to "girls' building sets" and "boys' bedding."

The big box retailer announced Friday that it will start phasing out gender-based signage in some departments. The shift comes in response to customer feedback that distinguishing between products for girls and boys is unnecessary and maybe even harmful.

Parents and gender equality advocates welcomed the news as a significant step with potential to inspire other retailers.

"This change is a step towards removing gender limitations in childhood, but when one of the world's largest retailers does this, the ripple effect will be significant," author Melissa Atkins Wardy said in her blog, Pigtail Pals & Ballcap Buddies, which promotes gender-neutral toys, apparel and other products for children.

Economists have a concept called “search costs.” The amount of effort you put into finding something is an implicit part of its cost to you, along with the price.

Doubling my search time in a store because I have to sort through the pink and the blue to find what I need wastes my time and raises my search cost.

Yes I guess we will. If we can’t have a men’s department and women’s department anymore, I guess everything will have to be mixed together.

So does this really make the lives of activists complete, that they are getting rid of any gender references in a Target???

Target should remove the size labels.

They stopped gender labeling, but they are still size labeling.

Stop the discrimination, Target! All sizes are equal.

“Who provided the customer feedback?”

While working on my MBA I wrote numerous papers on Wal-Mart and Target. The average income of a Wal-Mart shopper was $25k. The average income of a Target shopper was $75k. When I did my own research I talked to Target customers. They were as liberal as your average college educated yuppie. Target may actually not be pissing these people off as they are not typical shoppers. They’re more the Starbucks latté crowd.

The shift comes in response to customer feedback that distinguishing between products for girls and boys is unnecessary and maybe even harmful.

Apparently, a select group of customers provided “feedback”.
So when their child asks, “am I a girl or a boy”?, they answer: well, what would you like to be today?

THIS IS SUCH BULLBSHIT. WHEN THIS GENERATION BECOMES ADULTS, FORTUNATELY I’LL BE DEAD aND BURIED.

In August of 2014, Target filed an amicus brief with SCOTUS supporting the destruction of biblical marriage in society.

I quit shopping then.
