GOP Debate Winners: Trump, Cruz, Huckabee, Christie
http://www.newsmax.com ^ | August 7, 2015 | Dick Morris

First, the Donald.

He showed his style and his charisma. He took punches and showed that he can shake them off without effect. He showed that he is a totally different kind of candidate and that he squarely addresses the need for competence, strength, and leadership. He was hit on his quotes and he came back saying we had more important things to do than play political correctness. His business activities? He made money and followed the laws. Very, very strong performance.

But -- and it's a big but. His refusal to rule out a third party candidacy could prove to be the mistake that unravels him. Republicans do not want to encourage another Ross Perot. They feel Perot cost them the 1992 race and Trump set up an issue his opponents can use to beat him over the head.

On the other hand, voters might find it refreshing to see a candidate who tells the truth even if it might hurt him. The point is: he’s not going away.

Then Bush.

He did well, but Christie did better and Kasich did OK and they are competing for the same basket of votes. He certainly didn’t stand out in the crowd. Bush handled economy well, established his conservative credentials. But he was hurt on immigration and probably dropped in the polls as everybody else became better known,

Hugh Hewitt is a moderator next month. An odd duck, but Trump interviews are fair.

Looked bad, spoke poorly, demagogic and is bad.

Christie needs to go. Go far, far away.

I would agree about a three to four person format. That would be much preferable I think. Ten people is useless.

Christie just does not come off as intelligent to me, nto to mention he’s a lib and he hugged the Dark Lord.

Paul did have some answers that I appreciated tonight, but Paul just is not presidential at all. There is nothing that I see in him that says leadership. I think he is one of the ones that can go ahead and drop.

Fox News is the clear loser. Not fair and balanced at all with that shrew Kelly grandstanding and back biting. Too much time spent with Seth Meyers, I guess.

I am for Cruz but will back Trump depending on how it all falls out.

My winners:
Cruz
Carson
Trump

I thought I was going to hit the floor when Trump made his Rosie O’Donnell jab. Absolutely hysterical.

Something funny: I was watching the early JV debates with my Mother & she didn’t know any of them. When Linda Graham started speaking, she asked me “Is he gay?” LOL!

Dick Morris said: “His refusal to rule out a third party candidacy”.

Now, if people were not paying attention, I think there were 2 questions in there .. a 3rd party run, and also supporting whoever is the nominee.

When Hannity was interviewing some of the candidates - each one of them seemed to have a different answer - some said 3rd party, and others said support nominee.

There’s a fly in that ointment there somewhere.

Carson was very good, but, not my pick for president. I think he would be an awesome Surgeon General of the U.S. He is smart, laid back, articulate and very likeable.
****************************
Surgeon General is another ‘nothing’ position in gov’t.

I think Carson would be better as Scty. of HHS, since he’s had hands on experience.

No reason he couldn’t do both. HHS Sec + Surgeon General.

——His refusal to rule out a third party candidacy-——

The root of this issue was not mentioned.
trump has made the RNC a deal they dare not refuse. If you kill me you are dead..... that is the message. Cooperate and be nice or die.

Trump brought a shotgun to a knife fight

The derogatory comments directed to Fox News illustrate incorrect and in some instances shallow prior expectations.

It was not the goal of Fox to coddle conservatives with fuzzy wuzzies

The goal that was by the way accomplished, was to produce a well rounded view of all the candidates including the blemishes and rough edges. That was accomplished.

As far as I can tell, all of the candidates were able to make good and strong counter points and then deliver their thoughts.

Disagree. Fox could have let the candidates present their own policy positions and then let the other candidates challenge it.

Instead, the moderators asked skewed interpretations of one's position and then asked the others what's wrong with it. Not even, do you agree with that? One time it was "Was he lying?"

The moderators were setting up a series of 30 second cage matches between the candidates.

“My wife laughed at all the crap they were talking about Trump offending women supposedly.”

Because what Trump was supposed to have said is tame compared to the average morning among women when they discuss other women.
