GOP Debate Winners: Trump, Cruz, Huckabee, Christie

First, the Donald.

He showed his style and his charisma. He took punches and showed that he can shake them off without effect. He showed that he is a totally different kind of candidate and that he squarely addresses the need for competence, strength, and leadership. He was hit on his quotes and he came back saying we had more important things to do than play political correctness. His business activities? He made money and followed the laws. Very, very strong performance.

But -- and it's a big but. His refusal to rule out a third party candidacy could prove to be the mistake that unravels him. Republicans do not want to encourage another Ross Perot. They feel Perot cost them the 1992 race and Trump set up an issue his opponents can use to beat him over the head.

On the other hand, voters might find it refreshing to see a candidate who tells the truth even if it might hurt him. The point is: he’s not going away.

Then Bush.

He did well, but Christie did better and Kasich did OK and they are competing for the same basket of votes. He certainly didn’t stand out in the crowd. Bush handled economy well, established his conservative credentials. But he was hurt on immigration and probably dropped in the polls as everybody else became better known,

"And among conservatives, Cruz stood out. His answers were crisp, sharp and relevant. On immigration, he scored big points. He showed a degree of information and specificity that others didn’t have."

Christie? Nope. The dude is an idiot.

Hucakabee? Yes, he can answer questions well. Will he ever be president? Nope.

Trump And Cruz? Yes, they both did quite well, though I am going to give the nod to Trump, because the entire affair was purposely stacked against him from the start.

Who was the clear loser? Fox “News”.

I’ve always believed the last 2 standing in the end will be Ted and Trump, hence the meeting between the 2, weeks ago. Huckabee was very good though.

Christie sucked.
Rubio did the best and I don’t like him but I have to admit he was very good tonight.
Trump didn’t come across very good to me.
Cruz, walker, huckabee all did fine.

“Who was the clear loser? Fox “News”.”

You think they’re bad? Wait till the debates hits the enemy alphabet ABC, CBS etc. They’re gonna be so pro-Dem, you’ll puke and make you miss Fox.

That would be Christie.

Carson was very good. He did not get enough questions tonight.

Carson was very good, but, not my pick for president. I think he would be an awesome Surgeon General of the U.S. He is smart, laid back, articulate and very likeable.

Putting Christie in the winning slot is truly idiotic. The debate showed he needs to get out of the race.

The polling will have to be rigged to keep Christie and Juan Arbusto viable for the next round.

I see the Drudge Report poll has Trump decisively winning tonight with over 42%.

The Frank Luntz group seemed to be selected to create a narrative. Interestingly, next month with Jake Tapper and Hugh Hewitt may come across as fairer debate.

Trump won’t be able to raise money for a third party race; and he is not going to throw away much of his own money on a sure loser.

n the other hand, he might run simply for the purpose of taking enough votes away from the Republican nominee to let Hillary or some other Democrat win.

Trump climbing back up. Now 43%

Yeah, CNN should be a more even keel debate for Trump.

I found the opening questions, will you take the pledge, and you have called some women fat and pigs, or whatever it was Kelly said to Trump, outrageous.

As far as other debates go, I don’t think I’ll watch them.

I still support Ted Cruz, alas he is not the frontrunner at this time.

If the GOP nominates Trump, I will consider voting for him, but if they nominate any of those other jackasses, except Carson, I do not think he is a jackass, I will not be voting GOP.

I’d have to agree....the biggest loser of the evening was Fox News. Christie probably delivered a marginal performance and ought to be out of the race....as with Rand Paul.

I’d also say that these debates ought to be limited to three or four people max. Maybe an entire week, with rotating sequences and different people facing the public each evening. I’d say that at least two of these guys should just give up now and now waste any more time or funding.
