Looting and violence on the rise in Venezuela supermarkets
Yahoo ^ | August 6, 2015 | Diego Ore

Venezuelan supermarkets are increasingly being targeted by looters as swollen lines and prolonged food shortages spark frustration in the OPEC nation struggling with an economic crisis.

Shoppers routinely spend hours in lines to buy consumer staples ranging from corn flour to laundry soap, turning lines into venues for shoving matches and now more frequent attempts to plunder shops.

On top of this, Venezuela is running out of beer.

It's truly time to panic.

I guess that is true.

Last week there was no bread or toothpaste. Prices are skyrocketing.

And since government doesn’t pay the bills (remember business doing foreign business has to rely on a government program to pay for stuff. The government is not paying foreign suppliers though)

That is why people there cannot even make calls to some countries any more. The bills never got paid and the service was cut off.

I wonder if Todd Howard sent a team down there to gather data/story arcs for Fallout 4’s DLC content packs. He should.

With a few ex Blackwater guys guarding them of course.

Good afternoon.

I predicted in 2004 on this board that the oil platforms, pipelines, etc. will be hit, a la Wyatt's Torch. My predictions have come true in a small way as of now.

Watch, ALL of the infrastructure of Venezuela is about to implode. From oil/gas terminals, platforms, truck distribution of food, foreign exchange etc. are going to make my previous predictions look like child's play.

I hate being right.

Are they an urban chain? I thought there were no supermarkets in the “food deserts”...

“Network of subsidized state-run grocery stores”
There’s the problem of socialism right there. In socialism, the receivers get “lower” prices thru “subsidies” which actually pay higher prices to the producers than the producers would be able to get in a competitive free market economy. Then on top of these already too-high prices, multiple layers of bureaucrats, bean counters, and flunkies are drawing salaries, further driving up the cost—to the taxpayer—of these “low cost” subsidized goods.

Under Capitalism, the bread waits for people. Under Marxism, the people wait for bread.

OR:

The problem with Capitalism is capitalists. The problem with Socialism is Socialism.

The non-black suburbs around their city (either via auto or mass transit; they are safely outside of walking distance from looters); for my town’s Shop-Rite a bridge (in a neighboring town) connects to Newark NJ.
