Cecil: What's going on? [How Zimbabwe sees Cecil the Lion - Romans 1]
Zimbabwe Chronicle ^ | 7/30/2015 | Staff

AT LEAST five British national newspapers yesterday screamed in front page stories about Cecil, the lion that was killed by an American tourist, Walter Palmer, on July 1 at a game farm in Gwayi Conservancy.

The Telegraph, The Guardian, Metro, The Mirror and The Independent — all British heavyweights — ran with the story, condemning Palmer, a dentist from Minnesota, for taking down Cecil after paying $50,000 for the hunt. The lion was also a big news item on Sky News, the BBC and CNN. Many American news outlets, including The New York Times gave Cecil much prominence too.

Why such an outpouring of grief in the West over one lion? This is certainly not the first successful lion hunt in Zimbabwe, Africa or the world over, and will not be the last. So why so much interest? The name Cecil perhaps, given its historical significance for white monopoly capital in Southern Africa and the West? Many believe the lion was named after Cecil John Rhodes, the celebrated forerunner of British colonialism in Southern Africa, explaining the saturation coverage on the demise of his namesake.

It is not an overstatement that almost 99,99 percent of Zimbabweans didn’t know about this animal until Monday. Now we have just learnt, thanks to the British media, that we had Africa’s most famous lion all along, an icon!

Zimbabwe is shocked and suspisious that America is outraged at the killing of a lion. Safari hunting is a beneficial "cash cow" for the people, the economy, and even the lions of Zimbabwe. "What has happended to the USA?", they wonder aloud. Well, when a nation that rejects the true and living God, it must worship something. We were made to worship! In this case, we have traded Jesus Christ for a lion. Why not? Lions, spotted owls, trees, plants, streams, and all the rest of creation are easy to love! Creation is convenient, makes no moral demands, and we do not have to live with creation each morning and change its diapers.

God's word in Romans 1 shows us that God foretold this day. He said men and women would lose natural affections (e.g. babies, motherhood, fatherhood, marriage) and choose unnatural affections (e.g. sodomy, animal worship, idolotry). These perilous days we live in are like the days of Sodom and Noah. Brace yourselves, for these same people outraged by a man lawfully harvesting lions (food) in Africa, will express their outrage at those who expose their hypocrisy and lack of outrage over baby harvesting, dismemberment, and parts sale...

Romans 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

The British press is mostly responsible for the jihad against this Midwest doctor. They combined the British fanaticism towards animals and animal “rights” with their equal hatred of all things American into a noxious brew that made the Oxbow Incident look like a game of Tiddledewinks.

Beware readers of The Telegraph and Guardian. As bad as The Daily Fail is, they at least published articles about British hunters.

Zimbabwe is shocked and suspisious that America is outraged at the killing of a lion.

Zimbabwe has formally asked the U.S. to extradite the hunter to Zimbabwe for a criminal trial, so they must be outraged as well.

After Obama begged Mugabe to do so.

He should go back for that. He can get another hunting trip in on the way. Is there a zoo he can hit in Zimbabwe?

Not sure where you get your information from, but if you read this article, you will see what the government of Zimbabwe (not one newspaper) thinks.

So far as I can tell the hunt did not take place on the game reserve and the dentist had the appropriate licenses. The guide may have problems, but the dentist should not be extradited to one of the most corrupt countries on Earth and the regime of an America-hating dictator.

Maybe get to do an exotic monkey hunt too!
That’s right at the top of my bucket list. Chimps and baboons!!Maybe even one of those buff gorillas!
Water Buffalo would look great on the big wall in the barn.
So many creatures, so little time.

Those who believe the interest is bigger than a mere lion could be justified as Cecil, who roamed the Hwange National Park, was the focal point of a research project by Oxford University, Cecil the colonialist’s Alma mater. Rhodes learnt at Oriel College, a constituent college of the University of Oxford in Oxford, England, for only one term in 1873

The world must know we have tens of thousands of Cecils, only they are not wearing collars, and are not named after colonialists

Well that makes it OK. Cecil the lion was named after a wealthy racist colonialist white guy (Rhodes) and was being studied by people from Rhodes alma mater (well not his alma matter exactly and he only attended a “constituent college” and only for one term over a hundred years ago, but hey - Oxford = Colonialism) and therefore Cecil deserved to be killed (illegally poached), ironically by a wealthy white guy, who is probably a racists and a colonialist too. And the only reason why anyone not from Zimbabwe, that any white person in the West is upset or concerned about this is only because this lion was named Cecil and represents our love for racists and colonialism.

Do you even bother to read half the crap you post here?

Cecil was also the biggest tourist attraction in Zimbabwe and on my bucket list to see. Now I don’t have that! That would have been awesome! Now it will be bittersweet.
