Trump Promises 'To Be Me' in Debate: 'Don't Want to Be Unreal'

A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll, previewed on Sunday, found Trump in front with 19 percent. Two months ago, before his official announcement, Trump was at a mere 1 percent.

That's because people didn't believe he would really run, Trump said Sunday on "Meet the Press"

"They didn't want to waste poll votes," Trump told NBC's Chuck Todd. "Once I announced, as you probably know better than anybody, my poll numbers started to shoot up like a rocket ship. They continue to go up."

Appearing on "Face the Nation," Trump said he might be willing to release his tax returns if they could be tied to Clinton's emails.

Asked by host John Dickerson what percentage he pays in taxes, Trump said he has long said he pays as little as possible, preferring, as a businessman, to put the money back into his businesses and paying his employees.

"I fight like hell to pay as little as possible," he said. "I hate the way our government spends our taxes. I hate the way they waste our money, trillions and trillions of dollars of waste and abuse and I hate it."

Trump told ABC's "This Week" guest host Jonathan Karl his debate strategy will be off-the-cuff, just as his campaign has been. If he is attacked by others, he'll hit back.

"Every attack I made was a counterpunch," Trump said of his attack tactics "They attacked me first, and I hit them back, maybe harder than they hit me."

I think that Trump’s numbers are because he is being perceived as the Anti-¡Yeb!

I’m for Cruz, but I’ll take Trump over ¡Yeb! any day.

Trump has already shown he will not initiate an attack,,but will aggressively respond if he is attacked.

Looking forward to the debate.

That’s what I’m talking about.

I think Cruz realized very early on (because he is a trained debater) that Trump is a counter-puncher. It’s the way Trump has always been. He doesn’t start the fight, but he ends it as soon as possible.

Cruz knows that by not giving Trump anything to counter-punch, Trump will do the heavy work of damaging, or completely knocking out, some of the competition.

I don’t believe that there is a concerted effort between Cruz and Trump to move Cruz forward, but I think Cruz is smart enough, and insightful enough, to let Trump rampage through the rest of the field and pick up orphaned votes along the way.

"I'm not a debater."

“I think that Trump’s numbers are because he is being perceived as the Anti-¡Yeb!”

and also being perceived as the anti-establishment, anti-insider, anti-politician, anti-D.C., anti-Uniparty, anti-everything-everbody-hates-about-the-U.S.-government candidate.

It could end up being like Survivor, but with Trump decided who's next to get voted off the island. The more astute ones, which include Cruz, are going to let someone else be that person.

I'm wondering if it'll be Walker who says something stupid. He seems so scripted.

Walker made it through a near leftist coup, a historic recall and now another gubernatorial victory. He, his family, and Wisconsin legislators were subject to death threats. He is amazingly able to stay on message and to handle hostile interviews with calmness.

You can call that ‘scripted’ but for those of use who lived through the shit-storm with him we call that DISCIPLINED.
