Can we be honest about illegal immigration?
It is a common challenge to almost every advanced Western country that is adjacent to poorer nations.
American employers and ethnic activists have long colluded to weaken border enforcement and render immigration law meaningless. The former wanted greater profits from cheaper labor, the latter wished more political clout for themselves.
Mexico conspired, too. It received billions of easy dollars in remittances from its expatriates in America. Mexico had few qualms about letting millions of its own citizens illegally cross its northern border into the United States -- even though the Mexican government would never tolerate millions of Central Americans illegally crossing the border to become permanent residents of Mexico.
For better or worse, illegal immigration is tied to race and ethnicity. No doubt, ignorant racism drives some to oppose illegal immigration. But by the same token, the advocates of open borders, many of them with strong ties to Mexico, would not be so energized about the issue if hundreds of thousands of Europeans or Africans were entering the U.S. illegally each year.

Enforcement of our current laws—including deportation, end of chain migration, end of immigration “lotteries”, whatever it takes to end anchor babies, etc., etc.
Americans don’t want to legalize the 30 million low-skill illegals here currently.
A wall would help a little, but a large proportion of illegals enter legally and then overstay their tourist/student visa. A wall would just shift the problem so that more would enter legally and then just not leave, unless we also included better enforcement against criminals who stay here illegally and their criminal employers.
Guard the border; deport illegals; voter ID required; no benefits to anyone who is not a citizen; redo immigration quotas: No Middle Eastern immigrants; restructure to allow more from Europe; less from south of the border. Problem solved. Next question please.
I read the “immigrant” meme up until he started calling the illegals “undocumented immigrants”. I simply refuse to try and reason with (or give credence to) anyone who uses that phrase. Anyone mired in that phrase’s use isn’t “sensible.”
The solution is for the Lefties to invade Mexico and turn it into their own Utopian Paradise.
A 20 moratorium on visas issued to Mexicans. Problem solved.

How about we start by banning money transfers to other countries without proper ID and proof of either citizenship or legal presence in our country?

There is a generous reward system for illegals infiltrating our country: their babies get citizenship, they get free health care and welfare, and too many employers are willing to hire them “under the table.”
Serious immigration reform would address those issues. Tightening up border security is inadequate to preventing illegal infiltration when there are pots of gold waiting for the successful infiltrators.
I think that the value of ending the anchor baby practice does not need to be spelled out. The free medical care can be addressed by 1) providing care only for matters of life, limbs, eyesight, and 2) sending the bill to the illegal’s country of citizenship (perhaps deducting it from “foreign aid” payments). Under-the-table hiring can be opposed by 1) auditing employers, and 2) ending minimum wage laws, since those laws provide incentive to try to get cheaper unskilled labor.
Hell just stop all the free benefits and add some JAIL time in AZ out in the tents with fried bologna and no TV and chain Gang day work. Problem solved!!!
