Editorial: Make gun laws work the way they're supposed to
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | 28 july 2015

Half the guns used by criminals in Illinois gush in from states that do an even lousier job than Illinois of keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill.

When a big city like Chicago is a national hub of the illegal drug trade — even El Chapo has competition in this town, as Sun-Times reporter Frank Main wrote Sunday — then stopping that flow of guns is essential.

Now, finally, a leading voice of the Republican Party, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, on Sunday said what Chicago leaders have been saying for years: At least close the loopholes and enforce the common-sense gun laws on the books.

If guns are the problem, why aren't the places they "gush in from" as dangerous as Chicago?

A total gun ban is Chicago and crime is out of control there.

What is the democrat/liberal solution???

MORE GUN CONTROL.

—yep—same thing I was saying about NYC fifty years ago—something about those New Yawwkers made them want to kill each other so bad they imported guns from elsewhere with lower homicide rates to do it-—

Cars kill a lot more people than guns. Illinois should outlaw cars ( which are not specifically Constitutionally protected ) instead of trying to outlaw guns ( which are).

I’m guessing the guys doing the shooting in Chicago aren’t buying their weapons at the local gun dealer & going through background checks. The editorial is suggesting that other states closing loopholes regarding mental illness will make a difference in Chicago. It might if the Chicago shooters were all mentally ill and buying their guns legally, but this is not going to solve their current problem.

According to margabby kelley-giffords (ass-tro-naught) they get them at those gun shows where no background checks are required. Or something.

...and enforce the common-sense gun laws on the books.

Chicago doesn't have any common sense gun laws.

How did those two fruit loops get their guns?

Guns are not the problem. Chicago is full of criminal blacks. Control that “loophole”.

I heard that - he was saying the Louisiana shooter probably got his gun at a gun show, taking advantage of the infamous “loophole” (this was after it was reported he bought his gun legally & passed a background check) .... FACTS & truth mean nothing to gun grabbers .... or to Libs/Dems/Progs in general. Whatever it takes to advance their “holy grails” (infanticide aka abortion, gun control aka gun confiscation, & over running America with illegal immigration aka Dem voting base) is what they will do.

Perhaps we should do the same thing with immigration laws...

Well worth repeating - if fact, why aren't those places WORSE than Chicago?

The alleged source of those guns should be ‘awash’ in guns and make Chicago look downright peaceful..

Their angle is that Republicans and conservatives think of the mentally ill as those individuals who are dangerous to themselves or others.

But Democrats think of the mentally ill as those who oppose them politically, plus those who desperately need guns to protect themselves from violent criminals.

And this latter group is critical, because Democrats are Neitzschean in their outlook to life: that the very young, the very old, the oppressed, minorities, and the weak, should be *destroyed* by natural selection, with help, of course, from the Democrats.

So on one hand, Democrats are all in favor of abortion and euthanasia. They want veterans disarmed. Now Obama is making a push to disarm the elderly on Social Security.

At the same time, Democrats want to arm the violent and criminal, and get them out on the street to attack and kill innocent victims that the Democrats hate. They even want to *import* foreign criminals to do this.

It’s nice to blame it on neighboring states butI doubt that is where the problem lies. Any commercial and legal purchase goes through a federal check. Having accurate and timely responses is where the “purchase” problem lies. Going beyond the purchase are the issues of theft and unlawful transfer. No amount of legislation will control this as they are controlled by greed and human nature.

It would be refreshing to see major cities examine the causes of crime. Could it be that the prevalence of drugs, coupled with excessive time and money, are a problem? Could large numbers of non-English speaking immigrants, living in isolation and envy while being preyed upon by their own kind, contribute to the problem? Could the failure of our educational system to teach rather than babysit and indoctrinate be a factor? Could peer pressure and a lack of adequate role models be a factor? The list goes on, but politicians will ignore it in favor of amassing votes, whatever the cost.
