Sea Sheep? This Adorable Sea Slug Eats So Much Algae It Can Photosynthesize
'Its a sheep! Its a cow! No, its Costasiella kuroshimae (or Leaf Sheep for short). This adorable little sea slug, whose beady eyes and cute feelers make it look like a cartoon sheep, feeds on algae just like the real thing!
Whats fascinating about the tiny leaf sheep, which can grow up to 5mm in length and can be found near Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines, is that they are one of the only animals in the world that can perform photosynthesis (the others all belong to the sacoglossa sea slug clade). When they eat algae, they suck out the chloroplasts and incorporate them into their own bodies in a process called kleptoplasty. This process, which otherwise can only be performed by single-celled organisms, essentially makes them solar-powered slugs!
If this cute little leaf sheep has inspired you to see sea slugs in a new light, then check out this adorable sea bunny sea slug to seal the deal!'

I am assuming “costa-whatever” is slang for Rosie ODonnell.

It “steals” the chloroplasts of the algae it eats.

It will become a lot more popular as soon as Iran starts detonating nuclear weapons.

This critter lives at 11 meters or so which is shallow. I wonder how well it would do in an aquarium.

What is “one of the only” supposed to mean?
I think the author means “one of the few.”

Well, 11 meters is more or less 36 feet.......
I'm not sure how it would do in an aquarium.....
Actually, I don't have a lot of experience with the aquarium...

Decades ago one of the Universities of California (either Cal or UCLA) would have a coed paint in gold paint and appear at football games. She was called the “Golden Girl” and was very popular with the fans.
Yup. The paint eventually killed her.

Given that it uses photosynthesis...i would think it should like shallow water where it can get the most sunlight... but then again.. it looks like it should of been a natural for home aquariums years ago.. so wonder why not before..whats the “gotya”
