Walker: 'We know how to win a battleground state like Iowa'
Washington Examiner ^ | July 17, 2015 | Ryan Lovelace

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is concluding his first week as a presidential candidate with a ten-county tour of Iowa. Walker held a town hall event in Cedar Rapids Friday afternoon and began with a prayer for the marines murdered in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Thursday.

The governor said he learned one of the dead marines was from Wisconsin just before coming to town, and called radical Islamic terrorism a "virus" that is increasingly spreading into the U.S.

He also mentioned his personal connection to Iowa, having lived in the state from 1970 to 1977, and said his brother — who was born in this state — would join him in Iowa later on Friday. He emphasized his history winning tough fights in Wisconsin as evidence that he could succeed in this state and others throughout the Midwest.

"We know how to win a battleground state like Iowa," Walker said. "If we can do it [in Wisconsin] we can do it anywhere, certainly in our nation's capital."

He emphasized that his record as a fighter and a winner is what separates him from the other GOP presidential candidates.

The standing-room-only crowd packed into the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art to get a glimpse of the newly minted presidential candidate asked a wide range of questions including education, jobs, and the reforms he sought. Walker talked about his desire to implement entitlement reform and said, "I'm not going to touch your Social Security."

The governor will be one of several presidential candidates in Ames on Saturday for an event held by the Family Leader, a social conservative organization. The group is holding its annual Family Leadership summit near Iowa State University's campus tomorrow.

When the weekend has ended, Walker will have visited 16 cities in six states since announcing his presidential campaign, according to his campaign. While this week's campaign stops have come in states featuring early nominating contests, Walker will broaden his country to include both the east and west coasts next week.

EIB, July 17, 2015, Rush Limbaugh: Sanity from Walker and Carson

"RUSH: Scott Walker weighed in last night on The Kelly File on Fox News Channel. Megyn Kelly said, "Dr. Krauthammer came out tonight listening to the president and said, 'The president errs on the side of downplaying the threat of radical Islam, describing this man as just a lone gunman, and there are other examples with respect to the underwear bomber who called "an isolated extremist" and then of course Benghazi, where Obama refused to call it a terrorist attack at all.' Does Dr. Krauthammer have a point?

WALKER: We need to acknowledge that we're at war and radical Islamic terrorism is our enemy, and it's not enough just to have containment anymore. When you talked about the policies that prohibited our military personally from being armed at an establishment like this, those are outdated. Containment was something that might have been good during the Cold War, but we're facing an enemy in radical Islamic terrorism that's willing to take the fight to us.

RUSH: Republican presidential hopeful Scott Walker. And then he kept going on Planned Parenthood.

WALKER: Years ago when I first became governor the state of Wisconsin, in my first budget I defunded Planned Parenthood. I took some attacks from some in the media and some in the left. But this video is just a prime example. This is not a noncontroversial entity. This is obviously a disturbing, disgusting act that they're talking about. We've outlawed that in Wisconsin in the past. We need to be defudning Planned Parenthood. Not only state by state, but I think across the country and instead put resources into women's health issues but put them into noncontroversial entities.........."

The man the 'netroots' love to hate: Scott Walker

"PHOENIX, Ariz. — There’s no love lost for any of the 2016 Republican presidential contenders at the 2015 Netroots Nation confab, but attendees reserve a special kind of loathing for one candidate in particular: Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

It’s an understandable sentiment given the setting. This year’s edition of the annual convention of liberal activists is heavily focused on bread-and-butter economic issues, with a strong union presence. The AFL-CIO, the American Federation of Teachers, and the National Education Association have booths set up near the center of the convention hall, and many of the other booths are focused on one economic topic or another. Two large American flags with rainbow stripes instead of alternating red and white hang from the LGBT Netroots Connect booth, an indication of how forcefully gay rights are defended here.

All of which makes this a very hostile crowd for Walker, who regularly trumpets his victories over public-sector unions in his home state, and now weaves his opposition to the Supreme Court’s recent same-sex marriage decision into his stump speech as well.

“Scott Walker is probably the most dangerous of the Republicans in my opinion. And that’s just my opinion,” Dan O’Neal, the Arizona state coordinator for the Progressive Democrats of America, said. “He and Bush are probably the two most dangerous in terms of competing with Bernie or Hillary.”

It’s not that there are any warm and fuzzy feelings toward the rest of the GOP field, but it’s Walker who stirs the most negative passions among liberal activists."....................

2011 Wisconsin protests

"The 2011 Wisconsin protests were a series of demonstrations in the state of Wisconsin in the United States beginning in February involving at its zenith as many as 100,000 protesters opposing the 2011 Wisconsin Act 10, also called the "Wisconsin Budget Repair bill." Subsequently, anti-tax activists and other conservatives, including Tea Party advocates, launched small pockets of counter protests. The protests centered on the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison, with satellite protests also occurring at other municipalities throughout the state. Demonstrations took place at various college campuses, including the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. After the collective bargaining bill was upheld by the Wisconsin Supreme Court on June 14,[13] the number of protesters declined to about 1,000 within a couple days.

The protests were a major driving force for recall elections of state senators in 2011 and 2012, the failed recall of Governor Scott Walker in 2012 and a contentious Wisconsin Supreme Court election in 2011.............."

American Thinker, July 2011 - J.R. Dunn: Democrats Unveil the Weapon of the Future

"So what is a political movement to do, particularly one as fanatic and apocalyptic as this one? Well, if you have an alternate system made up of outside organizations not subject to governmental oversight, a system populated with self-selected fanatics and true believers, a system poised and ready to march, you can do what was done in Wisconsin. You can turn the superstructure loose to threaten the public peace, smash things up, abuse the electoral process, create a media spectacle, and pressure the state to do things your way. You can use nonpolitical organizations (in the electoral sense) to get a political result.

All the groups involved in the Wisconsin campaign were superstructure groups. The unions, the very core organizations of the superstructure, without which it's no more than a pack of vegetarians and aging hippies. The media, which serves as its propaganda arm. And the judiciary, which is broadly infiltrated by leftist partisans whose allegiance has been awarded to something other than the law.

But it's when we review the Prosser accusations that the picture attains clarity. According to Byron York, the story (which had been held back for nearly two weeks) was first reported by the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism working with Wisconsin Public Radio. (Two guesses as to which end of the spectrum they lean toward.) The Prosser story was billed as the result of a project funded by the Open Society Institute to enlighten the public about Wisconsin government.

The report was picked up by ThinkProgress, the strike force for the Center for American Progress, which both tweeted and posted the story, as well as calling for Justice Prosser's ouster.

The interesting thing here is that the Open Society and the Center for American Progress are the flagship organizations of the liberal superstructure, the outfits that call the shots, handle the funding, and coordinate efforts. They are also funded by Old Spooky himself, George Soros. The left rolled out their big units for this effort. Why? To wreck the career of a junior state Supreme Court justice? To take control of the Dairy State? Perhaps so, but I believe it was also in hopes of testing out the superstructure as a political delivery system in a relatively closed environment."......

Western Journalism, July 17, 2015 - Randy DeSoto: Liberals Who Tried To Shut Down Scott Walker Just Got Smacked Down In A Big Way

The Wisconsin Supreme Court gave Governor Scott Walker a victory just as his presidential campaign launched earlier this week.

In a sweeping 4-2 decision, the court ruled that the governor’s 2012 recall-election campaign and conservative groups had not violated the state’s campaign finance laws. Additionally, justices chastised prosecutors in the case for the tactics they used in conducting the “unconstitutional John Doe investigation.”.........

........David French, who has reported extensively on the topic of Wisconsin’s John Doe investigations for National Review, writes: “The abuse has been stopped, but this victory — important as it is — will be hollow indeed if there is no accountability. For the raid victims and their families, justice is still long-delayed. If prosecutors do not face any real consequences for their actions, then justice — ultimately — will be denied.”

Scott Walker: Americans want action in Washington more than bipartisanship

".........Walker started the day at a minor-league baseball stadium in Davenport, where he gave his usual stump speech, chatted with audience members and answered questions from reporters. He also prayed with and embraced a man wearing a Harley-Davidson jacket who said he is a homeless veteran.

Walker then hopped into his new Winnebago, which he will be using to tour Iowa in the coming months, and was driven to Cedar Rapids for the town hall, where nearly all of his answers contained chunks from his stump speech. Meanwhile, supporters of Democratic frontrunner Hillary Rodham Clinton rallied nearby. Walker ended the day in the Des Moines suburbs at a barbecue at his Iowa campaign office, staying late into the evening to chat with as many people as he could.

On Saturday, Walker will start in the western part of the state, visiting Council Bluffs, Sioux City and Carroll. On Saturday evening, Walker will speak at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, addressing a socially conservative audience, and then stop by a fundraiser at a farm in Haverhill. On Sunday, Walker will speak at a fundraiser for a state lawmaker, visit the small town where his family lived for seven years when he was a child and stop by a business in Dubuque."....

“Ten candidates are scheduled to appear Saturday in Ames at the annual Family Leadership Summit. No one seeking the GOP nomination has emerged as a clear favorite among evangelical voters..............

Scheduled to attend are Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson and reality TV personality Donald Trump.

During the daylong event, the candidates will be questioned on stage by political consultant Frank Luntz...........

“Not only are there considerable options within the Christian conservative lane, but there are also those in that lane that demonstrate appeal to a broader base,” [Former Iowa Republican Party Chairman Matt Strawn] said.”

Seems like he’s airbrushing his past so that he can compete against Trump. Can’t say I blame him, but I doubt it will work.

April 26, 2011:Trump’s donation history shows Democratic favoritism

"Billionaire Donald J. Trump, an early presidential favorite among tea party activists, has a highly unusual history of political contributions for a prospective Republican candidate: He has given most of his money to the other side.

The real estate mogul and “Celebrity Apprentice” host has made more than $1.3 million in donations over the years to candidates nationwide, with 54 percent of the money going to Democrats, according to a Washington Post analysis of state and federal disclosure records.

Recipients include Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.), former Pennsylvania governor Edward G. Rendell, and Rahm Emanuel, a former aide to President Obama who received $50,000 from Trump during his recent run to become Chicago’s mayor, records show. Many of the contributions have been concentrated in New York, Florida and other states where Trump has substantial real estate and casino interests.".....

When he considered a run for president in 2000 as a Reform Party candidate, Trump said he supported abortion rights. But he said last week that he now opposes the procedure except in cases of rape or incest or when the mother’s health is at risk......

March 2012: Donald Trump with Greta Van Susteren

".......TRUMP: I think Biden has been a very loyal person, to be honest with you. I think he has been a good vice president for the agenda that they set and he has been a very, very loyal person. I respect him for that.

Hillary Clinton I think is a terrific woman. I am biased because I have known her for years. I live in New York. She lives in New York. I really like her and her husband both a lot. I think she really works hard. And I think, again, she's given an agenda, it is not all of her, but I think she really works hard and I think she does a good job. I like her.

VAN SUSTEREN: She says she's out at the end of this term. Do you think we will see her again running for office?

TRUMP: I think so. Assuming she is healthy, I think she probably runs after the next four years, I would imagine.

VAN SUSTEREN: Do you support her?

TRUMP: I don't want to get into this because I will get myself into trouble --

VAN SUSTEREN: That's why I asked you.

TRUMP: I just like her. I like her husband. Her husband made a speech on Monday and was very well received. He is -- he is a really good guy, and she's a really good person and woman.".......

Good evening, I was wondering when you’d start your core dumps.

To answer your question, right now he’s half a point from being on top of the pack. Not bad for such a late arrival.

Nothing personal against Scott...I’ll support him if he wins nomination

But much a GOP TALK is about winning their election

Then after they do that it becomes about staying in office and their ambitions

The best leaders are those who are reluctant and not married to it

Scott is a pro

Not an ideologue

Which is how he wins libtard states

Contrary to conventional wisdom I don’t see that as a plus

Of course, like Walker, Trump has played both sides. Walker needed to do it for money, Trump to get building permits. No surprise for Walker, that’s how life works for underfunded candidates. No surprise for Trump either - you want a building permit approved in less than 4 years in New York City, you sure as heck better kiss-up to the right people.

The DIFFERENCE is that Trump, at least today, doesn’t seem to be controlled by anyone - particularly Karl Rove.

Walker is ten points down to Hillary IN THE STATE OF WISCONSIN!!!

Walker is not popular among voters in Wisconsin and (along with Ryan, Priebus, and Rove) could not deliver Wisconsin to Romney in 2016.

In order to defeat Hillary it is necessary to run a candidate who is not GOPe, who stands up and is willing to FIGHT for the Constitution, and who can motivate the millions of disaffected authentic conservative, Evangelical, and Tea Party voters to return to the voting booth. Ted Cruz is that candidate.

Conservatives would have to be crazy to support a GOPe candidate over Ted.

No need to defeat the left as president, just ENFORCE THE LAWS - the tools are already there. Rudy/Bloomberg proved that true in New York City, when EVERYONE thought crime could never be controlled - they did, and they didn’t even need any help in the way of new legislation. Just enforcement.

The problem Walker has is that while the Big Money boys in the Republican Party have no problem with Republicans taking on unions, they have a HUGE PROBLEM with Republicans taking on Open Borders. Walker, unfortunately, will have that albatross around his neck forever.
