22-year-old college student blows her $90,000 college fund and blames her parents

The woman, a 22-year-old college junior named Kim, who did not give her last name on air and was allowed to use a voice disguiser to even further shield her identity, came to the three hosts with a confession: in just short three years she had managed to blow through a $90,000 college fund left to her by her grandparents. Kim has one year left of school and no way to cover her remaining $20,000 tuition balance.

The show’s hosts try to give Kim the benefit of the doubt. She’s come to them (for some untold reason — perhaps a financial aid officer would have been a wiser choice) in a time of great need and they at least want to try to help her.

This has to be a script for “reality” TV. There is no chance an otherwise functioning adult or three adults could interview such a wench without rolling on the floor and laughing without control or ability to stop.

A $90000 college fund is a terrible thing to waste.

I’m almost afraid to ask what she’s majoring in.

There’s this thing called a “loan”. Hopefully she majored in something that she can get a job with, and pay it back. $20K is not a huge loan.

"Eventually, it does seem as if Kim starts to get the message. Her parents refused to cosign a loan to cover her tuition shortfall unless she got a job. She called the show on Thursday to give her fourth and final update: She has come to grips with the fact that she will, indeed, have to get a job. We almost felt a bit sorry for her when she started explaining how difficult it has been to find a place that will hire her because she has no job history."

Good for her parents!

(Helpful hint: The service industry hires illegals so they can't possibly require much of a job history. Though I suspect Kim may not last long.)

It is obvious that Kim didn’t budget well. She knew she had 90 grand and that... divided by 4 years should have been a clue as to what she could afford. That being said, everyone comes to the crossroads of being a “kid” and proving yourself an adult at some point. This is her crossroad. She can whine about how life is unfair and mean OR take a year off of school and work your butt off. By work, I mean more than one job and forgo the Starbucks, expensive make up/purses/clothes etc... Try to save every precious nickel... FWIW: my son just turned 19. This Summer, he is working 3 jobs. It can be done if one is motivated and not lazy.

"I took a trip to Europe. The Europe thing I thought was part of my education and that’s how I tried to justify that."

I'm guessing she doesn't drive a 10 year old Ford. Which is it, Kim, BMW or Mercedes?

And there it is. What’s the average age of a college freshman? 16? 17? That’s simply too young for kids today to be on their own. And what were her parents doing letting a teenager have access to her college money?

She may be broke, but she’ll vote.

Four times.

A day.

In the same precinct.

I think you’re missing the point:

She’s the result of what happens when stupid people breed.

Her parents are complete idiots as well. They deserve no kudos for not giving her more $$ with or without conditions.

This gal will go nowhere fast and this is the first of many hard lessons she will find about life, as her parents sheltered and raised her so badly and gave her such lousy genes that she’s doomed to repeat the mistakes of others.

I’d bet my left hat on that.

My daughter are both working their way through college. My oldest daughter delayed going to college for two years to work and save some money first.

Sometimes I feel like a chump not letting them borrow whatever they want through student loans since Obama is going to end up “forgiving” all of the student loans before the 2016 election and leave the rest of us holding the bag.

One can only wonder what her IQ is.

She should have taken a job at McDonalds.
