Carr: His Major faux pas? Questioning the prez
Boston Herald ^ | July 17, 2015 | By Howie Carr

Major Garrett made a potentially career-ending mistake at the White House on Wednesday.

He asked President Barack Obama a tough question.

How dare he! Fire this man. He had the gall to inquire why Dear Leader, while giving away the store to the terrorists in Iran, hadn’t insisted on release of the four American hostages held by the mad mullahs.

“Why,” Garrett asked, “are you content with the fanfare around this deal?”

Obama, his skin as thin as his suit is empty, replied icily, “You know better than that!”

Meaning, I think, that, Major, you do understand what happens to CBS reporters who try to be, well, reporters. Ask Bernard Goldberg. Or Sharyl Attkisson.

Have you also forgotten, Major, that the president of CBS News is David Rhodes whose brother Ben Rhodes works at the White House?

You see, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. is now like home on the range — seldom is heard a discouraging word. The White House press corps is now the White House press cult. They’ve all had a collective tingle up their legs since 2008. Anyone who dares question the Messiah about anything must be shunned, at the very least. It is verboten to mention that the emperor has no clothes.

As Bill Maher, the twit, tweeted of Garrett: “Why not scream the N word?”

One chattering skull at CNN said Major’s question was “loaded.” An anchor said Garrett was “disrespectful.”

Better to ask the kind of hard-hitting questions that Hillary Clinton got thrown at her a couple of weeks ago when she stopped at the Dairy Twirl in Lebanon, N.H.

“What’s your favorite flavor?” an in-the-tank photographer slobbered. . .

What people are not reporting about this is the subtext of 0bama's answer, which was as slimy and hypocritical as any he's ever given.

He attacked Garrett on the basis of the claim that a special pleading for American hostages would give the Iranians the idea they could get greater leverage if our concerns about our hostages became part of the negotiation.

Had Garrett been allowed a follow-up question, he might well have asked: If personal favors and goodwill gestures are so poisonous to the negotiating process, why then, did the Iranians make special pleadings for their people? And why did we accede to them?

Because the pResident is a two faced simpering jackass. That's why:

Gen. Qasem Soleimani the leader of Iran's Qods Force and one of the most dangerous terrorists alive will have his travel ban lifted and foreign assets unfrozen if the deal goes as planned.

Maybe a journalist could point that out somewhere...

In a few months, when the Chinese are installing nuclear missiles in Nicaragua, or Russian tanks are rolling into the Baltics, we can all pretend that the effeminate weakness of our Preener-in-Chief had nothing to do with it.

King Putt didn’t have a problem negotiating for the traitor Bergdahl.

But again, a very bad deal, indeed. IIRC Four, maybe five, high value terrorists for one US deserter who had already cost us dearly. So why do the “Republicans” negotiate so badly with this guy?

Of course. The blame will be on Bush and the Republican Congress. Maybe talk radio and Fox News too.

Garrett, to his credit, is sticking to his guns. Good for him.

Every poll shows huge majorities see the news media as more a propaganda machine that reporting the news. It's more than that. These are people obsessed with race. They cannot have the first black president fail. Limbaugh said on his show yesterday that he thinks the press knows this president is weak so they're trying to use this Iranian agreement to prop him up. I agree with that which is why they're reacting the way they are to Major Garret. They had this narrative for the president and he botched it up

This flap may be bigger than it seems.

I think the people really do want an answer to the question as to why Iran ends up with everything they want plus $150 billion, and no attempt is made to free Americans held hostage. This is a significant emotional issue, and it won’t go away, IMHO.

His petulance aside, Obama also didn’t answer the question. He comes out really small, it’s a major embarrassment for our country. It will fester.

Donald Trump will have a field day with this, and it will give it legs.

The press corps bows down and worships democrat presidents and attempts to discredit Republicans. Garret didn’t follow the usual protocol. He will be forced to pay the penalty.

Which is why you demand their release BEFORE you even begin any negotiations.

Garrett should have anticipated this and had the follow-up “question” at the ready. This guy is slippery and crafty (or at least has slippery and crafty help) and considering the number of news convergences Obama puts on, Garrett had plenty of time to prepare.

“Donald Trump will have a field day with this, and it will give it legs.”

“You Betcha”.

What would it have “cost” the Iranians to throw them into the deal? They would have got some goodwill out of it. Answer: no one on our side asked, so as to not “upset the negotiations”.

Another case of collateral casualties that you have to take in order to support the Big Picture of Utopia.

Obama may have cut a deal to free the hostages but has asked the Iranians to keep them on ice until he needs another foreign policy bump.

I cringe at the thought of these U.S. captives learning that after years of negotiations ending in a signed agreement these Americans’ freedom wasn't part of that deal.

The hostages know better than anybody that if this deal goes sour they will never see the light of day.

Just like with Iran, he gave them exactly what they wanted, with nothing in return.
