I think you are forgetting the fact that children only have to threaten to call child services to be able to lord it over their parents. How many times have nosy neighbors caused trouble to an innocent parent because they misunderstood the situation and called child’s services? The GOVERNMENT taking over the parental duties has reduced parents to nothing. They live in FEAR and that is what the government wants. The stories are horrendous...a woman arrested and her child taken away because she let him ride his bicycle to the park a short distance away....a parent arrestd and the child taken away because she let her child play in her front yard...etc. ad infinitum. The Government Agencies are funded based upon how many cases they have. These “cases” are worth money to the bureaucracy so “common sense” has left the situation.
I agree that You are right in that there ARE lazy and uncaring parents, but for the most part I blame the authorities for the lack of respect shown to adults by loud mouthed, insolent kids. Look at the classrooms for instance.

I am in complete agreement with you. I would like to add that
this acceptance of “Socialism” which is in truth COMMUNISM would not have happened in the years of my youth. Today, whatever is comfortable and/or entertaining is what the youth—the future of our country—want. They are spoiled and they will pay the price. The United Nations should be dumped in the East River.

Voltaire also said, “If God did not exist, mankind would have to invent him.”.....or words to that effect. The problem is that we seem to have forgotten that “God helps those who help themselves.” We must be up and about our work to straighten this country out and bring back our Christian values. We are now David fighting Goliath. And Goliath is of our own making, our government which rules us and not a government which serves us.

Both were learned teachers.

I’m fairly sure they believe in Aristotle. Strange isn’t it the reception of one and the rejection of the other.

No matter what else Christ was, He was a good man. His teachings were uplifting. He loved the poor and sought to better the lives of man. Those were tough times.

I suspect the rejection by the writer is more of an insult than an actual belief. If you really don’t believe someone existed, why talk about them. He makes no case to justify his comment. He just tossed it out there for effect.

You were right to ask, and not the first. Here was my comment regarding the issue. Thanks for asking.

Just a few thoughts to consider Doughty. From John McTernan's Insights a lot more to consider here. I was a little shocked that Google let this link show up under the question. Did Jesus Condemn Homosexuality?
It is true the Bible does not use the word homosexual or homosexuality; while it is not true the Lord Jesus never condemned the act. The word homosexual was not coined as a word until the late 1800s or just a little over 100 years ago. The word was first used in Germany and then picked up later in 1892 in the English dictionary. The King James Version could not use this word because it was translated 300 years before the word was coined in the English!

The Lord Jesus very clearly condemned homosexuality. He used the word for His day which would have identified the homosexual act. The New Testament uses the word fornication to identify homosexuality. Once it is understood the New Testament used this word to identify homosexuality, then it is clear that the Lord Jesus condemned it.

Thanks for the comments:

It has been my understanding since childhood that fornication meant simple adultery. Thinking I could be wrong, I Googled to see if my interpretation differed from the broad-spread societal interpretation.

I Googled the word "fornication" and found this. LINK

I considered that perhaps the dictionary would be another place to check. There I found this. LINK

Thinking this may be an issue of the word's meaning morphing over time, I tried to find the real meaning of the word as it related to the King James Bible. One source I found not only addressed that Bible, but a number of others.

The author of this document was concerned about the morphing of the condemnation for this act, so they addressed it head on.

Here's a LINK I'm sorry, but I find no justification for linking the word "fornication" to a homosexual act. It is a heterosexual act, and references sex outside of marriage.

I do believe there are other interpretations out there, but I believe they are centric to cultural influences rather than basic interpretations.

I come away not agreeing with your thoughts on fornication as it relates to homosexuality. I appreciate your point of view.

Sorry.

Thanks for you interest in my opinion. I am somewhat confused by your insistence that your interpretation is right, since I don’t agree that it does not strengthen the gay lobby point of view.

I sometimes disagree with a premise even though it is clear I agree with the poster on the overall subject we’re discussing.

Neither of us supports homosexuality. Our discussion was on whether homosexuality was addressed directly by Christ. (At least that was the emphasis of my earlier comments on this thread, and I believe you addressed me on that point in reference to “fornication”.)

As it relates to homosexuality, at the end of my research, I couldn’t agree that references to fornication in the New Testament were truly references to homosexuality. That’s all I intended to infer.

I’m not trying to be argumentative with you. I merely wanted to address the topic as frankly as I could.

No offense intended.

Guess he ain’t aware that Jesus Christ resurrected and now sits at the right hand of God the Father.

Too bad for him.

If you think that the recent SCOTUS decision was about legalizing gay marriage, then I have a bridge to sell you. (It was never illegal to get married in the first place.) That decision was about opening up churches to attack, nothing more. To resolve the First Amendment conflict between Equal Protection and Free Expression, all they had had to do was treat married and single people the same. Not one reference to sexual orientation, faith, or anything else. Just Equal Treatment. Every change after that would be entirely under Administrative Law, not Constitutional Law. Tax regs, insurance regs, probate rules, Social Security regs... not one would have needed even a single Congressional vote. Instead, SCOTUS decided to rewrite the laws and open up churches to attack, as was intended from the beginning. Everyone saw it coming, and 2 months before, several states passed laws reiterating their own Constitutions... and the Left lost their minds. They knew what was coming as well. Most of the states caved, SCOTUS write their insane opinion, and we continue our slide.

To another poster I said this guy was lofting that for the “insult” factor.

I think that’s more than likely the case.

If you don’t think Christ existed, why even address him?

I think his argument would have been more powerful if he had said Christ’s teachings on morality were rigid, out of date, not capable of being lived up to.

Tweaking Christians has become a real sport for sick low IQ Leftists dictator wanna-bes.

It’s another chance to take a shot at Christians.

That’s why he’s at Salon. He shares the antichrist spirit.

The world is divided into two camps. Wide is the path that leads to destruction. They may think they have a majority. A majority on the wide path.

So be it.

I don’t disagree. I think you’re on the right track there.

It is amazing to me how far down the path we have come in the last 20 years. Can you imagine the next 20?

Religious persecution in the United States? Really?

Unfortunately yes.

I was raised in a religion that predicted this long ago. I never doubted it, but I’ll be honest, I had no idea how it would come about. Now we know don’t we.

Good luck.

Not going to happen.
Conservatives are lazy. They haven’t even risen up against the schools and media teaching them that there is no morality and that sinning is fun and those who say otherwise are haters.
11 year olds being handed condoms and being implanted with IUD’s against parents wishes doesn’t bring a revolt. nothing will.

In several European nations, even the government protection of those who gang-rape of thousands of underage white girls is not enough to motivate them/us. I think we are simply going to allow the next Dark Ages to happen, even though so many of us wish someone would step up and organize us and let us know when and where and who to start on.

The problem is that we seem to have forgotten that “God helps those who help themselves.”

That is no an expression found in the bible, nor is it even biblical.

It doesn’t matter whether or not it is found in the bible. It is true. My life and millions of others have been better because of faith and effort. Help yourself and you’d be surprised. That’s what is wrong in America today. Too many want it all for free and think they are entitled. They are robbing from others but they don’t see it that way. Doing for others hat they could, and should, do for themselves is a road to insanity.

None taken. We rarely have an issue on any subject, in fact I can't remember one. Of course I remember less and less these days :)
