Its hard to quit and start over but I have no choice, said Puente, who was born in Bayamón. My kids are worried and ask many questions but they understand. We dont even have money to go to the movies. The cost of living is too high.
The government gives money to the people who dont work, to those doing drugs, living on welfare, she said. Im not willing to do that anymore.

This started decades ago....but when the 1980s came around and they wanted the US military to leave...the cash flow that the DoD pushed through left as well.
Around a decade ago....the drug companies that manufactured various prescription drugs began to leave, and that cash flow ended.
There’s not much to hope for now. I would speculate that half the population will be gone by 2018.
All these Puerto Ricans are going to move to Florida and vote democrat in 2016.
Like Orlando has a bunch of high paying jobs for pr hotel managers?
> Looks like the same old story they ran out of other peoples money.
And the mainland is too. Hate to say it but your Mexican cousins already took the job ou would have gotten. They probably borrowed someone else’s SSN to do it too. I recently found out a Mexican was borrowing mine and I know of 5 other instances where this is occuring right now. I had someone call me and they said the IRS was coming after them for $4000 in back taxes that they “hadn’t paid” for an employer they never worked for. Wanna hear the funny part? The victim is a Mexican.
Beautiful beaches.
Used syringes laying in the ditches.
A coworker of mine was from Puerto Rico, had worked on Vieques.
He said that the locals on the island like the Americans, since it provided jobs and local revenue. It was the nationalists who wanted the US military out, as well as the anti-military people from the mainland who wanted to take away the only beach/tropical island/bombing range combo the US had.
Then don't come here! We've got freeloading democrats everywhere. The left has run out of everyone elses money here, too!
Progressivism (Regressivism) is a world wide problem. It's a plague everywhere.
Don't run from the disease. Cure it!
Puerto Rico has been running a government Ponzi Scheme.
All that money went somewhere.
Find out where the money went.
Treat them like Madoff. Take away all their ill-gotten gains.
If the grifters see wives in the street crying to save their millions of dollars of jewelry and their children losing their lifestyle stolen from others, then the grifting will stop.
This is how a currency union should work. If the economy in your home area sucks you move to where the economy is growing. The problem is in Greece there are huge language and cultural barriers to picking up and say moving to Germany.
One way or another, we have the privilege of paying for their problems.
Never works, but Obama, Greece, Cuba et al all think they can make it work, if only we raised taxes and redistributed MORE money.
Where they will pollute the mainland with the same ideas that got them into the mess they are fleeing. They sound just like Liberal Californians fleeing the mess they created there.
Which is why Americans have stopped looking for work. Why bust their butts so some lazy democrat can live a relaxing, lucrative, comfortable life at their expense?
Screw that! Voluntary tax slavery is soooo yesterday. It's cooler to go Galt.
Treat them like Madoff. Take away all their ill-gotten gains.
You are dreaming if you think anything will be done about this. The money went to government employees and contractors. That's where the money went, same as here.
And their totally awesome pensions! $$$ ching ching $$$
Puerto Rico can still collect taxes.
It’s not “broke”.
They still have money coming in.
The problem is, nobody wants to be responsible for the hard decisions and hard actions.
That is cowardice.
Courage is what is needed in Puerto Rico. Courage to make cuts. Courage to call out the lazy and criminal.
Will they have it?
I don’t know.
Our nation is being attacked. The rest of the world wants to see us cowardly and weak as that would be to their advantage.
Screw them.
Drought?
Aren’t they surrounded by water?
