Paul Ryan: Don't let Obama run amok like on Iran (BS Meter at Red)

President Barack Obama's free-trade agenda, known as Obamatrade, faces close votes in the GOP-controlled House. But it's Democrats, not Republicans, who want to derail the process.

Ahead of Friday's votes, House Ways and Means Chairman Paul Ryan said he hopes Democrats will come around and support Obama on trade.

It's a rather confusing issue with lots of acronyms, but here's the story.

The House is set to consider fast-track trade legislation Friday.

The Senate has already backed the measure known as Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), which puts the White House and Republicans on the same side. It would renew presidential authority to present trade deals that Congress can endorse or reject, but not amend.

"We have the votes for Trade Promotion Authority," Ryan, R-Wis., said on CNBC's "Squawk Box," hours before the scheduled vote. "This process brings more transparency and more accountability to how we consider trade agreements. And it gives Congress more control over the outcome of these trade agreements."

I just heard on the news that Obama just traveled in state to the capitol to lobby Democrats on his trade initiative. He doesn’t have to lobby Republicans. He left them in bed, completely satiated.

EVERYTHING with these guys — including even with the “principled conservatives” — is a political calculation ... and that calculation, more and more, is to abandon the conservative base.

Re: Did Ryan's nose grow while he was talking this BS? His nose wasn't the only one that grew to these lengths. Betrayal by those we foolishly placed our trust. Including Cruz, co-author with Ryan of Op-Ed piece in WSJ pumping fast track TPP.

Good post. It’s George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” in real time. The pigs lead the revolt against the cruel farmer. When the pigs take over the farm, they are seen to be dining and merrymaking with the farmer.

Democrats oppose this. Let’s see...

Gotta mean we really will lose our sovereignty and control of our destiny.

PC liberals have long enjoyed the ability to control politicians and the media in order to influence events to their liking. If this passes those days are probably gone.

Why else would PC nanny-staters be against something as anti-American as this?

Yes Obama is out begging the dems to vote for TPA with “a vote against is a vote against me...” and that is because he wants to rein in executive power? This is crazy. It reins in congressional power.

The more Paul and Cruz dig in the more they negatively taint themselves.

Paul Ryan??? Isn’t he the POS who couldn’t even figure how to win a debate against Joe Biden in the last presidential election campaign? Isn’t this the man who goes faithfully to the gym to make himself look buff but in reality is nothing more than a wimp bowing down before Obama?
