Tea Party-backed Senate candidate Ted Cruz points with pride to the army of small conservative donors supporting him. But his largest longtime contributor is a gay billionaire who supports same-sex marriage and marijuana legalization, campaign finance filings show.
Peter Thiel, a German-born hedge fund manager and founder of the online payment system PayPal, gave Cruz $251,000 in 2009 for his aborted run for attorney general. Pretty much all the big donors are pro gay pro legalization.
Perhaps he’s a businessman who knows liberal social policies are a distraction for their communist takeover.

As far as big donors are concerned few are very conservative. Foster Freiss is probably the most conservative but has some soft points.
This is supposed to alienate the base from Cruz - the media fear him.

This story seems simply to be an effort by a Lefty paper to stir up trouble for Cruz with conservatives. The pretended ignorance about Thiel is telling. Thiel is well known as a libertarian, going back a decade. He has supported a great many causes that conservatives support, and as a free-marketer, he would have ample motives to support Cruz. That doesn’t appear to have resulted in Cruz embracing (pardon the expression) homosexual causes or marajuana.
So what? Plenty of gay Republicans supported Ronald Reagan. Just another attempt by the “concerned trolls” to peel off the support of the religious wing of the GOP.
Because they don’t have families to support!
Typically, wealthy homosexuals spend money liberally on themselves and with no domestic distractions they can spend their time building their fortunes.

I hate to burst your bubble world, but the left sees no difference between Cruz or Bush.
They are trying to destroy all Republican candidates or, at least, bloody them up a bit.
That's a lot of cash to give to a Tea Party candidate, who is out of step with the billionaire on social issues.
Hillary took money from foreign donors and we all agree that looks bad for her. It looks like they bought her support. What did this guy expect? Is there any update? Is he related to Cruz, his wife, etc. that would explain the large donations?
Cruz has been trying to figure out ways to stop, gay marriage, for instance DOMA.
Thiel is libertarian and a Ron Paul supporter. I suspect he would support Rand in the 2016 election.
