Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has suffered a serious setback in the parliamentary elections Sunday, according to initial reports. Four hours after the ballots closed, it appeared that Erdogan's AKP party will not have the required majority for passing reforms in the Turkish constitution.
With 90% of the votes counted, the Kurdish HDP party received about 11% of the votes, according to Turkish-language CNN.
This places it past the 10% threshold required for entering parliament and would give it about 80 MPs. The party has never before passed the threshold.
According to reports, AKP received 42 or 43% of the votes, leaving it short of an overall majority for the first time since its creation more than a decade ago. AKP may be forced to establish a coalition in order to rule Turkey.
"We expect a minority government and an early election," a senior AKP official told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
Erdogan wanted to change the constitution to grant him greater powers than he currently wields. ....

For better or for worse, I have become a fan of the Kurds.
Obama and the rest of the Muslim brotherhood is deeply saddened.
They’ll just have to have a go again to make things “right”. That or the Islamists will have to make a deal with a secular party. I can’t see that happening.
Great news, if true.
Of course, suffering a setback in the 32 Elections didn’t wind up stopping Hitler.
I’m sure Attaturk is pleased.
This is very good news. It’s funny how if the HDP (the Kurdish party with its non-Kurd supporters) had 9.98% of the vote they’d get ZERO MPs in Parliament but if they get to 10.0001 they get a minimum of 80 MP.
This will slow the Islamist Erdogan down some...hopefully.
Having met some Kurds, I see a lot in common with my fellow Texans.
Erdogan is a JIHADIST!!!! Turkey was once a SECULAR country...ERDOGAn made it into an ISLAMIST country.
Political winds may shift.. the stench remains the same..
Today he had his rear end handed to him today.
YEAH!!! He is BAD NEWS!
That makes sense. The only one with whom I have worked closely is honorable, hard-working, brilliant (I have no idea how many languages he speaks fluently, but it is, at a bare minimum, three) and fearless.
Unfortunately, this development will not insure that, but only cast the issues into more stark terms. Much heartache and bloodshed still to come.
HDP is an extreme anti-capitalist party.
Anything is an improvement over Islamofascism.
Hypocrates in the UN, EU and US can only see a two-state solution in Israel, where it would be a disaster. For the Kurds, it would work. They are used to autonomy and are not nearly as crazy as the rest of the Islamic world.
A pity that Little Miss Muffett ate so many of them.
I guess I’m pretty much alone here but I don’t buy that this dude is a jihadist, just a would-be Putin who uses religious rhetoric to get peasant votes. Communism is no improvement.
Of the other 3 parties in the Parliament, 2 (CHP, the rat party of Turkey and the Kurdish commie HDP) are socialist swine and third (MHP) espouses the same kind of Neo-Ottoman shite that Ergodan has in recent years. If anything they seem to worse except they oppose his attempts at more power for himself.
