Mr. Walkers bet on his regional appeal comes after a generation of Midwestern Republicans flopped in Iowas first-in-the-nation presidential caucuses. Michele Bachmann touted her roots in Waterloo, a small city in eastern Iowa. Neighboring governors Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and Tommy Thompson of Wisconsin dropped out when they didnt catch fire.
Midwestern roots did little to boost their presidential campaigns among Iowas Republican voters. Regional appeal, in fact, hasnt helped any Republican candidate win here since Bob Dole of Kansas carried the GOP caucuses two decades ago.
The Wisconsin governor, who hasnt formally announced a presidential campaign, is the only Republican who can tell Iowans hes from the neighborhoodand hes talking up his Midwestern roots at every turn. Hes not just playing to local self-regard: Central to his argument is that he can move Iowa and its neighbors into the win column for the Republican Party in 2016.........

.........On a trip to Iowa for a state GOP fundraising dinner last month, Mr. Walker told the story of his boyhood in Plainfield, Iowa, where he raised money for the community of 450 to purchase an Iowa state flag to fly above the town hall.
Stories like that are whats great about Iowa, Mr. Walker said, as the crowd roared. Its whats great about the Midwest, whats great about America. Later that evening Mr. Walker, in a hospitality suite, donned an apron and doled out bratwursts, cheese and Miller Lite.
Thats just the Midwest way of doing things, said Jeff Ortiz, a co-chairman of the Republican Party in Story County, Iowa. One thing I notice about the Midwest, were more about barbecuing and talking as opposed to fancy drinks. Its just a natural way of communicating with people.

Hillarys Constitutional Aversion to Criticism
“Progressivisms ever-tightening grip on the Democratic Party is on full display in Hillary Clintons presidential platform. Starting with her kickoff speech in Iowa, and in subsequent venues across the country, she spoke of her campaigns four fights, one of which is a constitutional amendment on campaign finance. This marks Mrs. Clinton as an adherent to one of the newest and most fervently held tenets of modern progressive teaching: Citizens United v. FEC is an evil that must be destroyed at any cost.
Yet its worth dwelling on that cost. Recent history demonstrates that the anti-Citizens United campaign quickly devolves into an assault on the First Amendment and a free and fair electoral system.
In a sense, its fitting that Mrs. Clinton supports efforts to overturn the Supreme Courts 2010 ruling that dealt with the right to buy television ads for a movie that criticized her. The constitutional amendment she wants could return American elections to where they were in 2008, when her opponents and critics were often muzzled in the public square.
Despite the hyperbole surrounding Citizens United, the justices were actually debating a simple issue: Whether a movie critical of then-Sen. Hillary Clinton could be aired on pay-per-view television. Under the Bipartisan Campaign Finance Reform Act of 2002, such activity was banned within 30 days of a primary election. The justices struck down this prohibition, ruling that the First Amendment protects political speech. Chief Justice John Roberts was even more blunt, arguing that such bans subvert the vibrant public discourse that is at the foundation of our democracy. ....

I’m rather certain that Walker will win the Iowa Caucus. Graham, sad to say, will carry his home state of South Carolina in that Primary. So, in the first four contests that leaves New Hampshire and Nevada. I’m so afraid Jebbie will win New Hampshire. Nevada...... who knows. The race will still be “wide open” after the first four constests. I believe Graham is in the race just to keep a Conservative from getting SC. He will give his delegates to Jebbie later on down the line.
Beautiful-—nails Hillary.
The circumlocution WRT her assault on the First/Amend is formidable.
What’s next? The b**** gonna attack the entire Bill of Rights?
Walker might be a good choice to fill a position in Cruz’s administration.
We need a three frame picture - one of Obama on his bike, one of Hillary getting out of her black SUV, and one of Walker on his Harley.
Graham has zero chance of winning SC, ZERO!
——Graham has zero chance of winning SC-—
Perhaps because SC has the worst BBQ in the country and lindsey has no harley
Until March 15, primaries (including SC) are proportional representation. Seems like a sitting senator could ‘win’ his own state when there are perhaps five other serious candidates.
That is funny...
Yes, as VP...and Mike Lee (R-Utah) as Senate Majority Leader...
He will be lucky to win reelection.
He won reelection by 200,000 votes last year.
Some things I noticed about the photo:
1. I’m no ‘expert’, but who wears latex gloves to eat BBQ?
2. Doesn’t seem to be a lot of people there.
3. Dude on the right seems to be thinking, “Well, at least my corn subsidy will be safe with this guy.”
4. Dude on the left seems to be thinking, “Wow. This guy is almost as slick as you-know-who.”
From the Article:
That Republican Co-Chair Ortiz sounds like the “Midwest way of doing things” is just a show and a sham to be taken advantage of, rather that anything real.
He was helping with the cooking and carving.
Since you spent so much time making up your clever anti-Walker, anti-middle Americans snit-list, I’ll just circle around you and join those who have something useful to say.

Walker has long been maligned about ethanol by a lot of people, including some Cruzers here on FR.
Readers have a right to know the truth on Walkers longstanding ethanol position, one he articulated again in his Iowa speech.

Walker on ethanol, March 7, 2015
“While I do not support the mandate, I do not have a problem with ethanol...
However, it is clear to me that a big government mandate is not the way to support the farmers of this state...
Central planning will not help our family farmers, protect our environment, or provide jobs.
The free enterprise system must drive innovation to relieve our dependence on foreign oil, not mandates from the state or federal government.”

He was serving food to others. Most places require gloves for that these days.
This was a fund raiser for Joni Ernst. Walker’s getting big press because Iowa Governor Branstad (and Ernst) are at least unofficially backing him. There were several thousand people there, many just to support Joni, and, this is Iowa, where co-ops and banks give out free tickets to people who just want to go for the food. Seeing presidential wannabes in Iowa isn’t a big deal, and not everyone is enchanted by every candidate.
