Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul on Monday walked back his comments that some in Washington might be secretly hoping for a terrorist attack with the expiration of provisions of the PATRIOT Act, saying in an interview on Fox News that hyperbole can get the better of anyone, and that was what happened on the Senate floor on Sunday.
I think, sometimes, in the heat of battle, hyperbole can get the better of anyone, and that may be the problem there. The point I was trying to make is that I think people do use fear to try to get us to give up our liberty, the presidential candidate said Monday morning. This was the whole thing that Benjamin Franklin debated, whether or not we should trade our liberty for security and sometimes get neither.
Paul reiterated that going after and impugning the motives of others is sometimes a mistake, and that exaggeration can get the better of anyone in the heat of battle.

Sometimes you feel like a nut...
We will have a terrorist attack and we in fact see them often. The problem is that the NSA seems powerless to stop them no matter how much power they have and we’re creating a justification for the NSA by refusing to stop the massive influx of muslims and everybody else.
I don’t see how he is wrong - the rest of our bloated US Federal Government looks for justifications for their existence.
Ferguson anyone?
Paul was exactly right. He shouldn’t have backed off.
Remake of “I Spy” scheduled for 2016 starring Anus and Randy.
Backtracking does not look good on any politician.
Rand should have shown backbone and stuck with his statement.
Now, every media person he comes in contact with for the foreseeable will raise this issue.
Well since he is usually the lonely guy on the senate floor trying to protect our freedoms I can see him flying off the handle once in awhile. Frankly there are probably some people who wish for an event so they can exert even more control over the sheeple. Would not surprise me in the least. Its just not kosher to talk about it. :-)
Freedom given up is a beach to get back. Never doubt that the GOP loves power as much as the Dems.
Rand has his "Destruct" button.
Paul doesn’t seem to understand the main problems with kooks is that they occasionally say kooky things. After doing so, he should learn the lesson from the Klintons, and simply go on.
We dont need an another unstable guy in the whitehouse....

He is gone....look for him to be thrown out of the senate in the next election. He knows it too. I expect we will see him go full loony from now on.
Would somebody give Rand Paul the name of Trey Gowdy’s barber, please?
Right. I do not see McCain making any “secret” of his wish for an attack.
“Sometimes you feel like a nut...” sometimes you are.
