A Cleveland cop cleared Saturday on state charges in the deaths of two unarmed people in a 137-shot barrage of police gunfire could face federal charges.
The Justice Department said after the acquittal of Officer Michael Brelos on voluntary manslaughter charges that it would "review all available legal options."
"We will now review the testimony and evidence presented in the state trial" to determine if "additional steps are available and appropriate," the department said.
Vanita Gupta, head of the department's civil rights division said the review is separate from its efforts to resolve a pattern of civil rights violations at the Cleveland police department. A report in December outlined a string of examples of excessive force, including officers who unnecessarily fired guns, hit suspects in the head with weapons, and punched and used Tasers on people already handcuffed.

Civil Rights charges are just a new kind of double jeopardy.
Here we go again...
Well of course they are. Meanwhile, they will continue to ignore the root of the problem, Black crime made possible by liberal social programs.
137 shots??????
It’s almost impossible to kill anything without a brain. Good shooting but you should have concentrated the shots better and saved the taxpayers money on ammo. However, the savings offset by the lifetime legal expenses the state would have had in trying to keep the animal in prison.
Good trade off.
Double jeopardy it is!
Double jeopardy is only a condign backdoor arranged by God for a vengeance-drunk society.
To be fair he only fired 49 of them.
What facts do you possess about the encounter?
Downtown is a zoo. I was going to go down to Li Wah or Bo Loong, but I’ve changed my plans!
exactly what I was thinking.
Here’s an excerpt regarding this mental giant Vanity Gupta from another article:
“Vanita Gupta, head of the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, has told a lawyers group in Colorado that slavery and Jim Crow helped fuel the Ferguson and Baltimore riots.”

I do not understand why this is a civil rights issue at all. The two people who died when they were shot at were not being chased because they were black. They were being chased and ended up dead because to the out-of-control reckless way the car was being driven.
This is the saddest part of all, because if there WAS an oversight needing, in principle, a level of cosmic justice, she’d be the last person on earth to get it there.
This has become a coarse, tragicomic opera of raw revenge in which we have found ourselves.
She forgot to mention that climate change also fueled the Baltimore riots.
Civil rights is not being cited on account of race.
Is it now automatic that the DOJ investigates black deaths by white cops?
Tomorrow night and Tuesday night, both games at 8:30 are Cav playoffs. Tomorrow there's an Indians game in the afternoon, and Tuesday at 7:15. With the extremely warm weather forecast, I'm thinking both days could get a little weird downtown.
The last time I was in Cleveland, I couldn’t wait to leave. I was conducting a tour and we overnighted there, making our way up to Niagra Falls. It was not a good experience and I recommended to the company that they change that overnight location.
