HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) Federal authorities are investigating a Connecticut gun-maker after agents found nearly 3,000 assault rifle parts missing serial numbers, according to recently filed court documents.
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents seized nearly 300 of the AR-15 parts from Stag Arms in September following routine inspections, prosecutors said. At the time, the father of Stag Arms owner Mark Malkowski told authorities that the employee who places serial numbers on parts was on vacation.
The New Britain-based gun-maker gained a high profile in the state when Malkowski became a vocal critic of a stricter state gun-control law passed in the wake of the 2012 Newtown school shootings.
The allegations that Stag Arms violated the National Firearms Act came in a forfeiture request by filed by prosecutors May 6 in federal court in Bridgeport. Prosecutors asked a judge to allow the government to keep nearly 110 of the seized assault rifle parts for "the use and benefit of the United States."

Well ain't that a co-inky-dink?
“Gone To Texas”. A sign soon to be posted on the front entrance of Stag Firearms. God Bless Texas....
.....Prosecutors asked a judge to allow the government to keep nearly 110 of the seized assault rifle parts for “the use and benefit of the United States.”
Yep that would keep Osama Obama’s fast and furious weapons sharing with terrorists cartels totally off the books..... can’t trace a firearm that doesn’t have a serial number.
And everyone knows Stag Arms is famous for their left handed receivers.......:o) (pun intended)
“...the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed....
“
Shouldn’t we be more concerned about why our government would want to keep parts with no serial numbers?
Perhaps for similar reasons that the former Secretary of State wanted an unofficial email server ?
I remember when FedGov was supposed to be on our side. Obama kept very few of his promises, but he kept his promise on “Change” when he fundamentally transformed what used to be a free country.
Exactly the point I was trying to make...... hope yer well !
Because it’s evidence of a violation of federal law. Likely, the parts will be kept until after the hearing.
But seriously - every gun manufacturer is going to have a point in their process where a frame has been completed, but not yet struck with a serial number.
Is the BATF&E going to wait and pounce on them with the same charges? This is just stupid... (which describes that particular agency fairly well), and it does smack of official misconduct in the form of retribution.
The statement was to keep 110 for the use and benefit of the federal government. They will hold all 300 siezed as evidence but they want 110 ghost guns for use by the Feds.
AFAIK, no law requires numbers on parts. Only the finished lower requires a number.
Ah. Missed that.
Given that there is no language in 27 cfr 478.92 which says when serial numbers have to be applied, except for the implied before transfer to a customer, the unmarked parts are evidence of nothing.
It would be interesting to see where they showed up...the ultimate throwdown piece.
Agreed.
This case is pure BS.
If THIS isn’t evidence of abuse of government authority, what is?!
I’m with Alan Korwin.
Every government official, elected or employed, involved with this illegal operation must be tried, convicted, and sent to prison.
Yup. The perfect weapon for graduates of the government's "Finders" school. Any time the feds need a mass shooting in order to push the gun confiscation agenda, just activate another zombie.
Like that will ever happen. Have you forgotten laws only apply to the little people - the ones whose taxes support the tyrants?
You have an excellent memory.
“Did you really think we want those laws observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against... We’re after power and we mean it... There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.”

Ha! Can everybody say “throw down?”
This is a bit more than a cheap 32 stuffed in your sock to throw down by the dead perp at the scene, but the theory is still the same, only with a much grander strategic plan in mind.
