Relations between Germany and Israel are at a crossroads. Is it possible for the German government to continue to steadfastly support the country even as Jerusalem continues to refuse to allow the Palestinians to establish their own state? [
]
In Berlin a debate is unfolding over whether the old rules still apply in dealing with Israel, only this time it is not being led by right-wing firebrands or errant left-wingers, who have always viewed Israel as a satellite of American imperialism. Instead, these issues are being raised by outspoken friends of Israel. [
]
Nearly all Palestinian construction projects are turned down in what is known as Area C, which is the 62 percent of the West Bank that is under full Israeli control. In recent years, Israeli settlements here have been consistently expanded, making a two-state solution ever more unlikely.

Der Spiegel is really spewing untruths here. Area C was never supposed to be for the Palestinians but for Israel alone, per the Oslo Accords. And the European Union builds illegal settlements there, not Israel.

Jews are not allowed to enter Area A under any circumstances, and only Jewish military personnel are allowed in Area B, which otherwise remains exclusively Arab. Arabs live and work in Area C, often on Jewish construction projects, in which Arab workers predominate. Their Jewish employers pick them up at the gate separating Area A/B from Area C.

The EU builds there illegally, however. But who is going to hold them accountable for their flagrant violations of Oslo?
