New York Times foreign correspondent Rukmini Callimachi on Sunday tweeted:
Rukmini Callimachi ✔@rcallimachi Free speech aside, why would anyone do something as provocative as hosting a "Muhammad drawing contest"?
The tweet came off of the news that police had killed two gunmen at a Garland, Tex., event showcasing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

In his treatment of the issue, the Daily Shows Jon Stewart couldnt resist throwing in some qualifiers regarding the First Amendment implications of the episode. AFDI, he noted, had given away $10,000 to the best entry in a Draw Muhammad cartoon contest.

AFDI is a First Amendment group the same way people from Philly are sports fans. Ostensibly, they like sports, but really theyre just looking for an excuse to punch a stranger and pour beer on someones baby.

Gosh, it was either that, or present yourself to the Muzzies as a willing Dhimmi slut, Rukmini...
Thye only get mad when they realize that she's a compliant Dhimmi slut...
NO SH1T JON.
Maybe he’s worried his audience actually does not know this.
I don’t really care what John Stewart has to say.
He has played so fast and loose with issues of morals that this incident is as much his and the Lefts fault for allowing the enemies of our nation to think we are not united against them.
Stewart displays weakness on behalf of the U. S. Our enemies think they can do anything and get away with it.
Now Steward sends a mixed signal, no you can’t shoot people.
Well John, it would have been nice if you had been giving the Left and our enemies push back before this.
Now that violence has taken place, go F yourself.
You’re about 1% as funny as you think you are John.
Stewart’s joke about Philly sports fans is funny enough, and I don’t take him seriously enough to question his disdain of that First Amendment group.
The time has come to pick a side and these people have picked theirs.
He knows damn well they don’t know it.
It has been his message that the right in this nation is wing-nut driven.
Big surprise when our enemies think people like John support them.
I am sure he is NOT on the muzzies side.
I am also sure at the same time the comment is aimed at the “intolerant” right wing. Even though we never do this sh1t, it’s always found out they are extreme liberals pissed off things aren’t liberal enough for their tastes, or a criminal cause celebre group the left is currently doting and fretting over.
Who is the law and order party in the United States?
We both know it is the Conservative branch of the Republican party.
John loves to trash this segment of our society.
So no, John may not be a Muslim supporter, but his is still an “enemies of our nation” enabler. He’s a willing dupe for those who hate the U. S.
I’ve tuned in to his show on days when it was clear the Left had really screwed up, and the Right was looking pretty good.
Rather than address the Left’s screwed up policies, he still trashed the right for 95% of his show, and only made tepid remarks about the Left’s huge mistakes.
This has consequences.
You can’t trash the only law and order people in the nation, then act surprised when our enemies take advantage of what they see as a wide open environment for them to operate in.
Stewart and his ilk are pleased as can be to convey that message to our enemies. I’m not in favor of giving him or the other Leftist members of the Late Night laugh factory who create an environment where our enemies see weakness.
If they’re on the side of the U. S., they need to wake up and be a little more pro America.
Very well said. Progressives do the same thing with domestic criminals and illegal aliens. They make them feel safe to commit crime.
Which conservative branch?
Free speech aside, because not drawing Muhammed is submitting to the status of slave demanded by murdering, racist, sexist, totalitarian, maniacs who stand for the utter and complete destruction of modern civilization, including the elimination of those Constitutional protections you have that enable you to go around in public without a bag over your head, safely speak in public as a woman, and not have your genitals cut out, Rukmini - you stupid, groveling, enabling, codependent coward.
So drawing a controversial cartoon is equivalent to the violent act of punching a baby?
Why is he smearing them as violent when they aren’t?
Oh wrong question expecting steward to be honest and fair
And a Jew, no less!
Unbelievable. I like to call them suicidal—that’s exactly what they’re trying to do. Apologies to the Orthodox Jews, and those who actually defend Israel.
But it’s OK to cut their heads off if they offend you. /s
What is so "provocative" about it? We are constantly being lectured that islam is a religion of peace and its adherents are peaceful people, so there is no reason to think that a simple cartoon drawing contest would evoke a violent response.
Is the Broadway musical, "The Book of Mormon" considered provocative? What about the 'piss Christ' so-called "art" exhibit?
Because, like the winning cartoon said, they say we can't.
AFDI is a First Amendment group the same way people from Philly are sports fans. Ostensibly, they like sports, but really they're just looking for an excuse to punch a stranger and pour beer on someone's baby.Yes, that's right -- Jon Stewart remains a demagogue and bigot.
