I love my country, but I'm tired of hearing about what an "exceptional" nation we are. Not just exceptional in the sense of different, distinctive, unique. We are that in lots of ways, many good, some quite bad. What I mean is the sense of "exceptional" that permeates the speeches of our politicians, especially Republicans, and the rhetoric of our right-wing rabble-rousers on talk radio and cable news.
Patriotism — love of one's own political community — is a natural human sentiment. But if it is not to be childish, delusional, partial, blinding, it must be tempered with a willingness to face facts, even when they're ugly.
There's an awful lot of ugliness in Baltimore right now.
It's the same kind of ugliness we saw in Ferguson, Missouri, and Staten Island, New York, last summer; in North Charleston, South Carolina, earlier this month; and in numberless incidents of African Americans suffering blatant injustice at the hands of private citizens and armed agents of the state going all the way back to the era of Jim Crow, and further back to the very beginnings of America, long before the country was founded as an independent nation.
"But wait," ask the commentators. "What about the rioters? What good is served by attacking police officers and burning down poor neighborhoods? Aren't you making excuses for their lawless violence?"(continued)

Just like virtually every statement from 0bama. Listen to 0bama, he NEVER utters a sentence without a “but” in there which if you take it in this sense, completely invalidates the first phrase. Anyone who uses the word “but” after an initial phrase has just told you that the first half of the statement is a lie.

Weird definition - but entirely characteristic of the left.

Baltimore is by far the exception when it comes to the greatness that accompanies our founding principles or what defines this country. Linker does not have a clue what those principles are, or what this country is. He’s about to find out, and he won’t he happy.

He never goes on to explain just what the heck he means by this claim.
He does, however, clearly indicate that he has no idea whatsoever of the precise meaning of [American] exceptionalism; which is not an opinion. It is a fact. It is a fact even if we had slavery going on when the country was founded. It is a fact even if this puke didn’t wipe his a** after the last dump he took, either.
Funny thing Darren, when I see ugliness, like in Ferguson, why is it I always see your face?
