The drug war means never having to say youre sorry.
A Houston-based federal judge ruled that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration does not owe the owner of a small Texas trucking company anything, not even the cost of repairing the bullet holes to a tractor-trailer truck that the agency used without his permission for a wild 2011 drug cartel sting that resulted in the execution-style murder of the trucks driver, who was secretly working as a government informant.
The Houston Chronicle story also points out that the ruling will spare the DEA a potentially embarrassing trial. Another way to phrase that might be that the ruling prevents the public from knowing the details of just how ruthless and indifferent to collateral damage drug warriors can sometimes be. In fact, the owner of the trucking company, Craig Patty, said that this was his reason for bringing the lawsuit to shed light on what happened.
This ruling will prevent that. . .

That’s no one way to get rid of an informant. Kind of messy tho.
Disban the DEA. What a waste of gubamint thugs.
-no
When 99% of the people in the country do that it is known as grand theft auto. But some animals are more equal than others.
Lloyd Christmas: “But what if they shot him in the face?”
FBI: “That was a chance we were willing to take.”
Dumb and Dumber 1994.
Who still thinks the WOD is a good thing?
A FEDERAL judge said a FEDERAL agency shouldn’t be held responsible?
Whoa... who could have seen THAT coming!
the agency used without his permission
Why weren’t they PROSECUTED FOR GRAND THEFT AUTO by the Houston DA???
Where ARE all the people telling me that I should trust the Police??
That’s what I thought!
This is the death of common sense.
I do.
What I don’t think is a good thing is an unacceptable, corrupt, and out-of-control federal government with idiots running operations like this and compromised judges issuing rulings in such cases.
So your solution is to allow the “unacceptable, corrupt, and out-of-control federal government with idiots running operations like this and compromised judges issuing rulings in such cases” to continue?
Probably the DEA executed their own informant. I’m at least hopping it was by accident. Now they get to cover the whole thing up so we’ll never find out. One thing incompetent bureaucrats are good at it’s coverups.
Larry Potts and Lon Horuchi would disagree.
Last I heard they were both hiding with 24 hr. security detail.
There’s so little useful information in this typical Washington Post anti-drug war story that one must read between the lines to deduce what went down here.
In all likelihood this started out as an ordinary “Controlled Delivery” where a truckload of dope was intercepted by DEA and the driver was “flipped” (convinced it was in his best interest to cooperate with DEA). The driver then drove the truck load of dope to its destination while being closely monitored and followed by DEA. When the truck reached its destination and the drugs were received, DEA moved in to arrest the drug traffickers, a shootout ensued and the driver was killed.
A truck load of drugs was seized, a drug smuggling operation was probably taken out, and a thankless American people couldn’t care less.
Let’s start w your tagline:
Christ doesn’t think much of drunkenness.
The war on terror hasn’t been well executed either.
It doesn’t mean we should stop.
A moral people doesn’t need laws as they will act morally no matter what. Are you afraid that once drug laws are eased that suddenly sober Christians will become pot heads?
And the WOD has been executed exactly as the laws have allowed. There are hundred (thousands?) of laws whose primary concern is catching drug users or dealers. Laws that prohibit the amount of money you can travel internationally with, how much money you can deposit or withdraw without triggering a red flag to the DEA. There are even laws that legally allow the police to seize your property under the mere SUSPICION that it is somehow connected to illegal drug. To get your property back, you must hire a lawyer and go to court and prove the property ISN’T connected to illegal drugs. There are millions of people in jail now for drug violations which cost us billions every year.
We can either live in a police state or a free country. Which do you prefer?
Even police states have drug problems: "Drug abuse in Iran rising despite executions, police raids" - http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3256793/posts

Not what happened: "A federally deputized corporal from the Houston Police Department decides to pay your small companys driver to drive your truck to the Mexican border, load it up with illegal drugs, and try to catch some bad guys."
Ya....I’ve noticed how much better things are now in Colorado....
Yes, when you send the message to kids that dope is legal, the incentive for caution is GONE.
