If they develop an appetite for meth or an addiction, and if the user base grows due to these financial incentives, the cartels could get a hefty return on investment. Because it’s so cheap to make, failure to establish a market here wouldn’t be too harmful to their bottom line.

Here's a product which is cheap to manufacture, addictive, and whose price is ultimately supported by misguided government policies. As and when meth spreads in New York, we will blame the drug rather than the policies. I don't see how we can change the nature of the drug but we could change our policies.

I remember when cocaine was a”fringe” drug. Marijuana, Heroin and LSD were the “in” drugs.
