I don’t understand this. Lincoln was not a Senator. Nixon was a Governor.

For the most part Presidents have been Governors, VPs or Generals. Governors and Generals have demonstrated their executive prowess. VPs have spent 4 to 8 years watching the president up close. Obama and Kennedy are the only Senators in the past 100 years. 5 of the last 7 presidents were governors. 4 of the past 12 have been VPs. All of them were senators or congressman before hand.

Obama is easily the least qualified President we have had. And he has only remained in power because the press has protected him. Which means the press assumes they are the king makers. I hope we can change that in this election.

Rubio's argument is a red herring.

As Governor, Walker met with other heads of states promoting WI trade and jobs policies.

Governors frequently meet with foreign heads of states. Sarah Palin as Governor of Alaska engaged in foreign affairs frequently due to the location of Alaska and its proximity with Canada and Russia.

What does a Senator do.

Rubio is one of 100. All he does is vote for or against legislation in which ultimately goes to the President.

Nixon was a senator. He ran for governor in 1962 and was defeated by Pat Brown.

“LBJ had no problem winning in 1964”

If my memory is correct, he ascended to the presidency when JFK was killed. He never won an election.

This is an idiotic discussion. There have been excellent Presidents who were Senators (e.g., Harding) and wretched Presidents who were Senators (Kennedy, Johnson) and fine Presidents who were governors (Coolidge, Reagan) and wretched Presidents who were governors (FDR, Carter, Clinton).

INFINITELY more important is whether the candidate is EVIL or not. For instance, is he for sucking the brains out of babies?

The very fact that being for sucking the brains out of babies is considered a NORMAL position for a politician to take is PROOF that our country is near death.

LBJ defeated Goldwater in 1964, maybe you’re thinking of Gerald Ford.

Bush and Rubio are pawns of the defense industry as are McCain and Graham. These four will buy whatever drones and bombs they can. And use the army wherever in the world someone steps out of line. They can be trusted to go to war. They cannot be trusted to shrink the government. They are all funded by defense department vendors.

Your memory is faulty, FRiend. He became president upon the death of JFK in 1963 and won election against Barry Goldwater in 1964. Look it up.

He won the 1964 election against Goldwater. He ascended to the presidency in 1963.

He won in 1964 against Goldwater.

“The United States presidential election of 1964 was the 45th quadrennial presidential election. It was held on Tuesday, November 3, 1964. Democratic candidate and incumbent President Lyndon B. Johnson had come to office less than a year earlier following the assassination of his predecessor John F. Kennedy. Johnson, who had successfully associated himself with Kennedy’s popularity, won 61.1% of the popular vote, the highest won by a candidate since James Monroe’s re-election in 1820. It was the sixth-most lopsided presidential election in the history of the United States[2] in terms of electoral votes; in terms of popular vote, it is first. No candidate for president since has equaled or surpassed Johnson’s percentage of the popular vote, and only Richard Nixon in 1972 has won by a greater popular vote margin.”

That’s funny because I was wondering how an amnesty whore empty suit like Rubio could be President.

LBJ was running until his own Attorney General declared, and far out polled him. With no way to win his own primary, he said that he would not seek nor accept the nomination. People hated him, hated the south, and hated the war. The only democrat with a chance in 1968 was the brother of the dead former president.

Bobby Kennedy was not LBJ's Attorney General in 1968. He had been elected to a senate seat from New York in 1964.

It was Sen. Eugene McCarthy's strong showing in the New Hampshire primary that prompted Johnson to withdraw from the race.

The point remains that he did not run. I met the “dead president’s brother” at Disneyland right before he was assassinated.

LBJ won because Kennedy (who was behind in the polls) was killed in late 1963. Americans have a hard time voting against a dead guy. And Johnson stood for Kennedy, agreeing to implement the Kennedy plan. Well, that good feeling lasted about a year. Then it passed to Bobby Kennedy. And Johnson was hated then after.

I was told if I voted for Goldwater, we’d have riots in the streets and get into a long, unwinnable war, well I voted for Goldwater, and darned if they weren’t right.
