Oregons new governor Kate Brown two weeks ago signed into a law a bill requiring distributors to reduce the carbon intensity of vehicle fuel by 10 percent over the next decade.
Now the American Trucking Associations has joined with the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers and the Consumer Energy Alliance in suing Oregon to block the fuel standards.
The Oregon program is set up to give a big boost to Oregons small biofuel industry, without reducing net greenhouse gas emissions, and at the expense of higher fuel costs for everyone, said ATA Vice President for Energy and Environmental Affairs Glen Kedzie.

The best way to encourage innovation is to get gummint out ofthe way. The worst way is to set arbitrary standards for consumption of something. You don’t see gummit standards forcing people to buy new smartphones, do you?
I’ve heard Oregon has the potential to a decent functional state if they could carve out a hippie enclave which includes all of Portland and Eugene and lease it to China . . .
Oregon used to be quite conservative, or at least libertarian. A general philosophy of ‘You leave me alone & I’ll leave you alone.’ Now the nanny-state do-gooder types are thick in all the larger population centers. We’re thinking about moving, but this area is ideal for us. It’s really just...so...aggravating!
Virtually every problem we face today is caused by out of control government policies.
Just pull up to the state line and drop the load. No transiting OR. They’ll adapt eventually to having to drive to the state line to pick up their stuff.
This a boost for Singapore.
Thackney posted data about the west coast biodiesel coming from Singapore processed palm oil.
Time to open a truck stop just over the state line.
I wonder if they will start mandating OTR trucks show proof of purchase in the state to get a sticker or pay a tax (fine).
Over here~
you already have to have a fuel permit.
Yes, but now what you bring in with you in your tanks is what I meant.
Cannot be shipped to AK,GU,HI,PR,VI and Oregon.
Can someone explain how “biofuel” can have less “carbon intensity per BTU than fossil fuels”? Do they not count the carbon in “renewable” fuel?
Seems to me that “Donated” plant food (CO2 from fossil fuel) is more valuable than cannibalistic plant food (CO2 from “biofuels”).
the way they used to do it in western states is charge you tax on fuel you would have burned in their state if you did not buy fuel there, don’t know how they do it now.
