I’d like to get the real story of what went down in Decatur. While they’re pretty white / gentrified / Leftist overall (with a large black minority), they can also be pretty no-nonsense. For instance, they’ve been ripping out bike lanes and putting the pavement back to carrying real traffic.

Social justice activists are ALWAYS wimps.

Thats why PETA goes after little old ladies in fur coats, and not Hells Angels in their biker leather.

Also why the IMF/World Bank protests in DC have been pretty sedate these last several years. After some minor rioting one year, the DC cops decided to haul the malcontents they arrested down to lockup in Anacostia rather than the usual 2nd District tank (a few blocks down from National Cathedral). The punks got the message and decided it was in their best interests to settle down.

Haven’t seen a thing about it in the press since the first couple weekends of the nonsense. I assumed it had just fizzled out.

Many decades ago, I lived a stone’s throw from downtown Decatur. I graduated from Druid Hills High School on the doorstep of Emory University and the CDC. I knew it well. I haven’t been back since I came back from the military - likely will never go back.

I couldn’t begin to tell you the demographic makeup of the environ now, but I’d guess from the fact I’ve never received a reunion invitation from my former alma mater it is not the same.

That really is no matter and I’m not disheartened by it. What disheartens me is if citizens become protesters and advocate for a dogma that only seeks publicity and some special favor for a cause not worth supporting..
