I learned a long time ago that it's often pointless to analyze elections in foreign countries, especially those with parliamentary systems of government where the elections usually result in the establishment of a governing coalition involving multiple political parties.

One of the problems you face when analyzing elections like this is that we tend to assume that the issues we think are important here in the U.S. are the same issues that they think are important over there.

A win is a win. Even if he won by one vote, he won. I am glad he won but now Israel needs to come together and work on their government and leave America to deal with ours which is up for grabs in 2016. They may need our continued support with military equipment which I am sure we will give them. But hopefully with this win, Bibi will feel more secure and not look to the United States for the pat on the back he desires. He needs to look to his own populous for support. We will always have Israel’s back but they need to start standing talk on their own too.

...[T]his kind of conflict is never, ever gonna be solved with an agreement. Just like World War II was not gonna be solved with an agreement. You get the agreement after one side surrenders, and there's only one way to make that happen is if you beat them in war. And that, of course, can't even have that on the table. No, no, no, no, no. Not even gonna go there. So the utter futility. I'm just amazed at everything and how it keeps repeating itself. Different people saying the same things, different people doing the same things, different people proposing the same things, different people, depending on the year, the generation, different people concocting a new variation of an old idea.... It never works and it's not even based on reality....

Absolutely it never works. Because the "progressivist insurrection" is not in any way, shape, or form based on Reality. If one were to invoke the criteria of actual Reality, one would have to say that every attempt whatsoever to establish a progressivist Utopia has always failed.

But any such "success" would require the abolition of "First Reality," in order to pave the way for the establishment of a Second Reality — the sort of thing that Lewis Carroll famously documented in his Through the Looking Glass: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

In this big-picture scenario, 0bama is the Red Queen.... (or is it Valerie Jarrett?)....

Progressivist ideology requires two things: (1) the Death of God; (2) the extinction of human history as relevant subject matter that one can draw on to inform the proper ordering of human society today. In short, not only the death of God will do, but the death of the historical human past is required, on the putative grounds that the future is entirely understandable and even predictable without knowledge of the human past.

I won't belabor this point beyond saying that public education nowadays at all levels does not seem to devote itself to the transmission of knowledge about the human historical and cultural past. Forget the classical definition of education as the transmission of culture from one generation to the next. This idea has been "overcome." Progressivism has to "erace" man before it can "reform" him into its own image. It takes the actual multi-millennial record that can be documented and "reinterprets" it in ways deemed advantageous to the success of various "progressive" enterprises and schemes.

In short, we are invited/forced? to toss the rising generation into Alice's rabbit hole, to be taught to observe and wonder about the meaning of a universe that has been entirely subverted and "inverted" beyond direct human experience, common sense, and reason itself.

You put up such great posts, Kaslin! Thank you so very much!

And Arafat backed out, precisely because why? Arafat didn't want a solution. What's in it for anybody after there's a solution here? The road to riches is paved with no solutions. The road to fame, riches, notoriety, all of that comes from the struggle. If there is no more struggle, if there's no more disagreement, if there's, quote, unquote, peace -- that's another elusive concept -- then all these people fighting for it all of a sudden have nothing to do. It was very instructive. Clinton offered Arafat everything, and I think even threw in some goodies that Arafat hadn't asked for. Arafat ran away, didn't want any part of it.

So we're left with what is the inescapable reality, and that is that Israel is surrounded by people who want it gone. Israel is surrounded by people who want the Jews marched into the Mediterranean or nuked or in some other fashion destroyed.

And what happens if Israel is gone? It ends the conflict and produces a "solution". Then what?

Visualize the Israelis finally call it quits. (I know many think this will never happen, but bear with me on this hypothetical). The Israeli Jews get an offer to immigrate, en-mass, to the US, and they take the offer. The Palestinian Authority, Hamas, Jordan, Egypt, ISIS, and all the rest suddenly stop having Israel to blame for the lousy existence of their people. The dog has caught the fire engine. What now?
