Interesting there has been no lawsuit by the UVA fraternity against Rolling Stone magazine. I suspect one of the conditions of reinstatement in January was an agreement not to sue the university. Could/would the university have also protected Rolling Stone?
With respect to the OU lawsuit, unless there is a quick settlement the university will likely drag it out forever in court. The alumni better have deep pockets. The left will target each of the students and their families, as well as the alumni funding the suit. It may be difficult for the students to find jobs. Likely the alums financing the suit will see their jobs and businesses under attack. The judge in the case may not be sympathetic and may be downright hostile. It is doubtful any politicians or public figures will support them in principle. Seeing this through will cost much more than money and they could easily lose.

Boren didn’t shut down the ASE chapter, the fraternity headquarters did that. And as for the branding them as racists and bigots part I think they kind of did that to themselves.
Be interesting to see some clandestine video of what is said in black frat houses.
The men involved are adults, and they have freedom of speech.
No laws were broken.
And unless the university had specific written rules about which words can and cannot be uttered, there is no case. In fact, the rules would not apply off campus, where the incident took place.
You are not guaranteed the freedom to be offended by speech in this country.
The university reacted like an elementary school, and they need their heads legally handed to them.
All O.U. has to do is contact SAE (Sigma Alpha Epsilon) Nationals to put this to rest. Nationals can permanently suspend a chapter at a university, and there is NOTHING the chapter can do about it.
For the record free speech means the Government can’t put you in jail for political speech they do not like.
Although every school, work place and organization have a code of conduct.
If you say things that could financially jeopardize or physically threaten a school, a business, an organization... then the school, work place and organization have the right to get rid of you.
SAE does not have a prayer and the lawsuit will only make things worse.
Meanwhile, blacks in places like Ferguson are busy rioting, looting, and in some cases murdering.
