The Cinematic Railroading of Jameis Winston
National Review ^ | March 12, 2015 | Stuary Taylor Jr.

Posted on 03/12/2015 7:04:46 PM PDT by GrootheWanderer

A movement is afoot to destroy the career of a young black man whom a young white woman with overwhelming, well-documented credibility problems has accused of raping her. Three separate investigations, including a Florida State Code of Conduct hearing, have found former Florida State quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston not to be a rapist. But now The Hunting Ground, a much-touted documentary on previously anonymous accuser presenting her case publicly for the first time. Senator Claire McCaskill (D., Mo.) has warned that NFL teams had better “watch this movie before they draft him.”

I hadn't really followed this case, but I'd didn't realize how weak the case against him was. You'd think after the Duke lacrosse case the media would be more skeptical of these kinds of stories.

Movie?....Hell, after that loss to Oregon I’ll be surprised if he’s even drafted..........

Winston may not have raped that girl, but he’s still no choir boy.

At best, he’s undisciplined, immature, and self-centered (much like a nationally known person of color).

Add to that his complete collapse against Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

I don’t care much for the NFL, but I pity the team that drafts the wreck.

I’m hoping he is NOT the draft choice of the TN Titans. For the last 10 years I’ve been buying DH & DS tickets to 2-3 games a season but son is heading off to college in August so either way . . . I won’t be buying any Titan’s tickets.

I have a hard time believing that a big-time jock at a big-time jock school has to rape in order to get laid.

He’s probably an immature jerk, but a rapist? Give me a break.

I suspect that he will be an above average NFL QB - not a star, but not Ryan Leaf or Jamarcus Russell.

he's a creep....the rape accusation was never investigated properly and it took several months even for the cops to do anything about it....

and then out in Oregone, you have the university grabbing the private counseling sessions of a student who claimed she had been a victim of three Oregone bb players, just to fight her....

there is no winning for these young women, and its a wonder women go to the cops at all....the fix is in for the athletes...

same story with Winston .....he's another Micheal Vick and he'll be a nothing because he has no character...

real cops and courts should be involved. These campuses are more interesting in defending reputations and althletes than anything like justice

I usually like Stuart Taylor, but I do not find this article squares with what I know about this case:

1. The State’s Attorney consistently referred to the woman as a victim during his press conference decline to charge.

2. The State’s Attorney said he was not charging due to GAPS in her memory that reduced her credibility as a witness, not general credibility as Taylor tries to pass it off as. This I think is a bit sleazy on Taylor’s part.

3. That the woman thinks she may have been given something to impair her but that she could not testify to that as a fact in a hearing is of no consequence and Taylor as a legal journalist should know there are different standards. You can only testify to established facts in a hearing, in a documentary, you can offer up your opinion.

4. The Tallahassee PD botched the first investigation. The state’s attorney consistently called the woman a victim after his investigation, but the TPD botching of the evidence made seeking charges unlikely. The so called third investigation was an internal one at the school where the fix was in.

I am left to conclude like the state’s attorney, that the woman was probably raped, the rapist according to the DNA was Winston, but that there is probably not evidence beyond a reasonable doubt to deprive Winston of his liberty. Of course the rest of us can shun him as he deserves. The movie tries to shame him and let the rest of us know what he likely is.

Don’t forget the two shoplifting incidents, the squirrel-shooting incident on campus, or the sreaming-obscenities-while-standing-on-a-dining-table-in-the-student-union incident.

Any Tallahassee police that arrested Winston on any charge would be out of a job before he got Winston to the police station.

Sounds today’s typical:

Girl meets boy who will make millions in Pro-Football. He’s only interested in casual sex with her. His career must be ruined.

“he’s a creep....the rape accusation was never investigated properly and it took several months even for the cops to do anything about it....”

The back story shows otherwise.

I wouldn’t draft him for anything. But then maybe I’m biased because I’m a Gators fan.....;^)
