Nigerian militant group Boko Haram has pledged allegiance to Islamic State (IS), according to an audio statement.
The message, which could not immediately be verified, was posted on Boko Haram's Twitter account and appeared to be by the group's leader. Boko Haram began a military campaign to impose Islamic rule in northern Nigeria in 2009. The conflict has since spread to neighbouring states.

This specific cake has been being baked for half a decade now. When the history books are written, the greatest geo-political blunder of the 21st century won't be the invasion of Iraq. It'll be the support given to pro-Caliphate Islamic groups to overthrow regimes from Libya to Syria.

What makes you think it was a blunder? Our political class was quite willing to sell the future of the non-political class, not to mention their grandchildren, for unimaginable wealth.
They don’t care if there is eternal darkness as long as they get their tropical islands today.
But getting rid of Saddam certainly set the wheels in motion.
I guess mass murder and atrocities are their initiation rite for the islamic state. Of course Hussein will say it's just "boys being boys" and if he has a son ....

Boko Haram and ISIS are as Islamic as their prophet.
They are following his example.

I don’t see how a non-invaded Iraq would have been any different than Libya. Had Bush kept Iraq under sanctions and done nothing to oust Saddam, all we’d see is McCain and Obama talking about the “plucky” guys, like al-Zarqawi, fighting Saddam for freedom in the Iraq Civil War. As Saddam would bomb them, we’d retaliate much like Libya by attacking Saddam’s forces.
I believe quite some time back, some folks decided this was the way things were going to go. Their motivations... up for debate. But here we are dealing with it.

You know, of course, that the FX “ARCHER” series on cable is built up around a clandestine agency that, by strange coincidence, carries the acronym of “ISIS”, but supposedly acts much like the “Torchwood” agency, a spinoff of BBC’s “Dr. Who”.
Nobody really understands the motivations of the characters or their degree of allegiance, and in any other universe, they would be rank amateurs. Maybe this explains the softness the Current Occupant feels for ISIS.
Sounds to me like they are looking for help. ????
