How Sex Trafficking Became a Christian Cause Célèbre
Slate ^ | March 5, 2015 | Ruth Graham

[SNIP]

".......When evangelicals picked up the issue of trafficking around the turn of the millennium, they drastically expanded the existing movement’s influence and reach. By now it has spawned major institutional efforts by nonprofits like World Relief, not to mention both state and federal legislation. According to some critics, however, Christians also changed the movement’s character. “It wasn’t until this evangelical coalition emerged that sex trafficking became this huge everyday issue,” said [Gretchen] Soderlund [author of the 2013 book Sex Trafficking, Scandal, and the Transformation of Journalism, 1885–1917, the better comparison may be to the“ white slavery” panic of the late 19th century]. “Once the evangelicals got on board, it became a much more mainstream issue, and less feminist. You had innocent victims, and you had evildoers, and it wasn’t as much about patriarchy.”..

..The strategy of “rescuing” supposed slaves has also been criticized as paternalist, moralist, and ineffective. Then there’s the numbers of the forcibly “enslaved,” which seem to be wildly overestimated by many sources, although the numbers are also hotly disputed. Meanwhile, some of the most prominent trafficking stories of this century have come under intense scrutiny.....

This month, FAAST [ Faith Alliance Against Slavery and Trafficking] will launch a seven-week anti-trafficking curriculum aimed at 8- to 13-year-olds in Sunday schools, home schools, and other religious settings. “Change Agents” includes lessons on topics like Internet safety and sex trafficking and frames certain Bible stories as “abuse stories,” including the tale of Abram accepting rewards from the Egyptian pharaoh who has taken his wife. As evangelicals continue to champion the cause, the next generation of activists will view trafficking through this lens, making a political and economic question a religious one, too.

It does figure into the theme I often comment on that the left and right tend to collude with different issues and even some of the same issues for different reasons in the need to increase state power on their respective agendas, when the worst enemy for the Founding Fathers and the right should be state power itself, however messy freedom is for society or particular religious viewpoints.

And 1885 to 1917 is when the Constitution began going out the window. Third Great Revival meets Progressivism.

The article mentions that people are held as slaves for labor activities and sexual activities. It is amazing that robots and software will take the place of most of the human labor including sex (if a person allows himself or herself to think of sex as work). What will happen with billions of people are out of work and have no wealth? They will probably be organized against each other. Elites might pit the unemployed masses against each other and reenact some of the historical battles like Waterloo or Hastings. Instead of using software games that mimic reality you could have a real war on a grand scale with life and death in the balance for us but it would be a game for the Elites. The outcomes of these reenactments might be different but nothing will change for humanity.

Wow. Your post #4 sounds like the plot of a science fiction novel, a variation on hunger games.

The Left prefers to demonize men on campuses by championing false rape investigations.

And the military.

While Obama and Congress were gutting the military budget in 2013 and 2013 (and the current budget cuts last until 2023!), the Left, Barry, and Hungover Hagel were going before the cameras daily telling the world that our military men were a bunch of Rapists.

They spewed "prove a negative" false data that said the "majority of rapes and sexual assaults are unreported, therefore, there thousands more military men are sexual assaulters and rapists than we have data for."

On this ridiculous argument ("we don't have the data to back it up, but we are making the charge"), every single military man, many of them fathers and husbands, was rounded up and subjected to days of intimidation and propaganda - called "SAPR Training" by the feminists and the left.

Women in the military were propagandized into believing this lie.

The Pentagon's own data showed that false reporting skyrocketed in the thousands. Not a single military female was prosecuted for filing a false report and slandering a fellow military member.

The vast majority of the "rapes" were consensual sex where the woman had second thoughts. Things are so bad now that if the woman chooses to drink even a glass of beer before she has sex, the Obama regime calls this "impaired so that she could never consent", and the man is guilty of rape.

If they cared about human trafficking, for sex or any other reason, they would stop illegal immigration. By supporting the current program of turning a blind eye and letting people in, they are enticing those people into making s very perilous journey. Subject to the whims of all sorts of nifarious scum, that they must pay for the opportunity to be kidnapped, raped, or left in the desert to die of exposure.

The promise of amnesty has only made things worse.

Um... SAPR (and now SHARP) is equal opportunity. Military women have to sit through it as well.

I have a hard time imagining anyone at my command committing any kind of sexual crime. However, at another command a long time ago and far away, I was the victim of sexual harassment. I did not report it (for various reasons, I did not think I would be believed), but I did tell an Inspector General when they visited our command that it was occurring. I think several women said similar things to the IG. The result was that the very man who was committing the offense stood up in front of our division to tell everyone the results of the IG visit, and to be mindful not to harass each other... (After he retired and went to work as a government civilian, someone did submit a complaint against him, and he was appropriately punished--loss of employment, loss of retirement benefits.)

The left is the biggest enabler of sex trafficking. When they will not enforce border security, and allow coyotes to bring in "undocument immigrants," they are, in fact, allowing the slave trade to flourish. Those coyotes purposely pick people who are so mired in poverty that they have no hope for the future, and promise to take them to a place where they can work good jobs and become rich. Then they deliver those people into slavery (not just sex slavery--the slavery can be just for the labor). And our leftist politicians are doing everything they can to increase this activity.

In short, the party of slavery has never given up on slavery. The only difference is that now that slavery is illegal, the slaves no longer have the legal protections that they did when slavery was legal and in the open.

If we want to impede the slave trade, we need to enforce the borders.

My concern is that it brings in even more Muslim “refugees” America should not want and can’t support.

What do you think the wars of the 17th and 18th century were primarily for?

The press-gangs went after the underclass, sweeping them up and putting them on ships and in armies, where they would have a chance to kill similar underclass in the ranks of the opposing armies and navies. Kill off enough of the underclass in various battles, and you had a chance for social stability.

I think you give the elites too much credit for the supposed power they have. Yes they are powerful, but imagine a million man mob in Manhattan targeting every single elitist stronghold & tower. They’d burn down every building with elites in them before these “elites” could escape.

They really don’t have any more power than what we give them. Most of that power is perceived. They rely on people to sustain them. They are NOT independent (nobody is for that matter). At a moments notice their so-called servants can turn on them (think Caligula & Julius Caesar).

I’d imagine they’re every waking hour is one of always looking over their shoulder and holding everyone as a suspected traitor not to be trusted.

But I’d imagine a sadistic Soros or Putin holding games like you mention.

The current issue of Reason magazine is a special issue on robotics. One article explores the idea of "sexbots" in considerable detail. Worth reading, not only for the sexbot article, but for the economic implications.
