The FCC just voted to regulate the Internet, the BATFE is proposing banning bullets, immigration law is being shredded, Obamacare is destroying our healthcare, and the Internet is obsessed with a scam about the color of a friggin dress. Pathetic!

I think it has to do with one’s ability to interpret colours. It literally looks blue, but if you’re thinking along the lines of context (shading or contrast) you might interpret it as white.
However, I could not see the gold bands as anything else than gold. I thought, when I tried to interpret it differently, that I could see a hint of faded leathery black, but that’s as far as I got.

Few people are completely color blind.
Its rare for humans to see the world in black and white.
But there is an innate preference for certain colors over others.

Half of the people are below average. This article is an example to prove the point.

Gold = orange. It’s really an issue with the image taking and printing processes. Try taking pics of a black lab. It’s often difficult to see any detail.

Visible light is made up of electromagnetic radiation of various wavelengths. It can be precisely defined scientifically, with proper equipment. What a human sees when looking at that light isn't nearly so precise. What he calls what he sees is even less precise. There is no question that two different humans might call it by different names.
So what?

In fact, after studying that picture, it all comes down to this: the background brightness—because it has the slightly yellowish colors of Sun illumination a low angle—completely fooled people into thinking the dress color is white and gold. In short, the color perception is based on us being used to the color gamut shown on color film for still pictures, especially Kodacolor for prints and Kodachrome for slides.

I think this is more twitter 'emperor's new clothes' bunk (like Kanye is being nice to some old unknown dude named Paul McCartney).
Took the pic (and tones) into a drawing program. No way in heck is that 'black'.
