McCain to GOP: Let courts decide Obama's immigration actions, fund DHS

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Thursday said Congress should not let the Department Homeland Security (DHS) shut down because it appears the courts will decide the fate of President Obama's executive actions on immigration.

On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” McCain was asked what he would say to his GOP colleagues in Congress about making sure DHS is funded by Feb. 27.

“I would put sufficient blame on the Democrats for not allowing us to move forward in the Senate. But having said that, now I’m hopeful with this court decision—with the declaration that the president himself has acted unconstitutionally as he himself stated I think 22 times—that we would let the courts move forward with this issue since we have a favorable ruling,” he said.

McCain didn't explicitly say Republicans should drop riders the House GOP attached to the DHS funding bill that would roll back Obama's immigration orders, but suggested that might be the best course of action.

“It’s not a good idea to shut down the Department of Homeland Security,” he said. “We should be working together despite the obstruction of our Democratic colleagues to resolve this issue so that we don’t shut it down. Now we have the perfect reason to not shut it down because the courts have decided, at least initially, in our favor.”

McCain was referring to the ruling a Texas judge issued late Monday that temporarily halted the immigration actions Obama unveiled last November. As a result, DHS had to freeze its plans to implement part of those actions on Wednesday.

The GOP always cracks at the same places, with the weak-kneed moderates wringing their hands over a "shutdown"

McCain fighting for the other side again.

In another thread, I wrote that the Democrats would use this argument that the funding fight in the Senate was no longer necessary because of the court ruling.

And here is McCain leading the liberal charge.

Good Grief!

America made it for years WITHOUT a Department for Homo Security. We sure as hell don’t need one now. It’s a waste of taxpayer dollars.

Please let this guy just go away once and for all.

For the last time McStain, this would not end up in a shut down of the agency. More importantly, the court case highlighted one big problem with Oturd’s plan, it is not based on an Ex Order, it is based upon a memo which has no force of anything except perhaps a liberal fart. So, he has to be met with a force stopping it dead i.e. no funding for it or for any Ex Order. Oturd knows he got caught overstating something with one of his wordsmiths. That is all the guy is, an activist no nothing, just a suit with a voice.

Yes. Under orders from Obama, the DHS wants funds to help illegal criminals in this country to remain here legally. They do this even to the point of hand delivering illegal alien children to the doorstep of their illegal parents. Obama wants funds for illegal DHS activities.

By all means, you insane fool, legitimize and abet activities that a Federal Judge has as much as said are illegal and unconstitutional, not within the powers of the President. By your logic, when you see a yute mugging/robbing/raping/killing someone, hold his effing coat while he does it and then “let the cops sort it out afterwards”.......

McCain you are crazier than a bag of sh!thouse rats.

Right on cue John McCain joins the democrat lie.

The judge has blocked Obama’s illegal action so lets fund it anyway?

This is simply a shocking development. Who in a thousand years (with the possible exception of every single Freeper who ever lived) would have expected this from John (The Closet Dem) McCain?

McCain, the House did just that. Homeland Security is funded to fulfill the mission precisely as it was last year. Not a cent has been cut. The only difference is that the House instructed that there be nothing spent on a brand new spending scheme announced by the president. Spending which NO previous Congress (including democrat ones) has ever authorized.

The easiest solution, McCain, is for the Senate to take up the House bill it already has and vote on it. Send it the the WH for signature this weekend. Asking the House to start over is a stupid waste of time - if urgency is really important to you. Since the administration has been enjoined from any further spending regarding the contested new program, it won't matter a whit. That contested spending is on hold.

They’ll cave. Its what Republicans do; its who they are.

Weakness is deeply embedded in the party’s DNA.

IMHO, McConnell should:

1) end the Democrats’ abusive filibuster.
2) ask Democrats to submit their amendments (if any) before the final vote on the HSA Funding Bill without delay.
3) submit the funding bill for approval by a simple majority in the Senate.
4) send the approved bill to the WH.

Yes, declare it a reconciliation bill, which eliminates the 60 vote cloture requirement and proceed apace. That action supposes that most Senate Republicans approve of stripping away this amnesty spending.

Juan rubbed shoulders with a Muslim monster who took a bite out of a human heart.
And JEB gave a medal to A SOS who deserves handcuffs for her role in the Benghazi debacle.
And these GOP terds are our “friends”?
With friends like these, who needs Democrats?
