".....On Thursday, President Obama will designate the plot of land in western Oahu that was the site of the Honouliuli camp as a national monument, White House officials told the Los Angeles Times. The designation is intended to bring greater awareness to it and to Hawaii's distinct role in the World War II-era incarceration of Japanese Americans and what the White House calls "the fragility of civil rights during times of conflict.".......

and all enforced by liberal hero FDR...
I thought Hawaii was soon going to be free from United States hegemony.
Why would they want another park to take care of after they are economically independent?
Lousy sob
Ironic that this administration would want to call attention to the ‘fragility of civil rights’, as they seek to strip us of our income, weapons, privacy, birthright citizenship, and sic the IRS on us.
What makes you think “they” want it? Obama wants it - that is all that matters.
Got off our high horse, so now we transfer to the REALLY low horse.
Eventually a toy horse.
“America’s Bad...!!” = twisted religion
At least he’s not re-opening it.
Yet.
“.....what the White House calls “the fragility of civil rights during times of conflict.”...
Read - Gitmo.
Good point.
Just another wedge driven between Americans...gotta keep those old grievances alive.
It held MANY more prisoners of war than Japanese Americans.
A good friend from college grew up in Hawaii. His family has been there generations.
In the 1930’s and 40’s his great-uncle owned a small cabin and some land on some hills near Schofield Barracks. They had a Japanese gardener/care-taker of the place who disappeared on Dec. 7, never to be seen again. The FBI investigated, and later only told the family that the man seemed to have an interest in radio telephony.
Only a small percentage of the Japanese in the Hawaiian islands were sent to internment camps. Hawaii had the largest concentrations of Japanese in the country. Between 1200 and 1400 men and about a 1000 dependents were interned. This particular site also housed some German and Italian American internees. For a while some prisoners of war were also housed there.

Yeah, a monument to Democrat racism and oppression. Say thank you FDR and your party for endorsing that policy.
That’s what I was thinking. Of course bammy likes the idea of and has reverence for an internment camp. He’d like to open up his own and put a lot of us in them.
AH AH AHHH. You are poking your finger into FDR’s eye.
Joe DiMaggio’s dad had a fishing boat that got impounded for the whole war didn’t want him meeting up with U-boats.
