i don’t necessarily disagree with your assessment. If they are not much of a fighting force than why are they are still breathing? we should do whatever it takes and just wipe them out and be done with them

Because they were created by the Saudi sunnis and supplied by Obama and McCain to take out Assad before they started their criminal rampage. Any huge move against them will result in the truth coming out about the Turkish, State/CIA, and Saudi support for them being widely exposed.
The plan appears to be let them stay boxed in somewhat, and hope they again start focusing on Assad. That’s my assessment of “why”.
Fighting against half-assed hajis is one thing. Fighting against a professional force is quite another. What professional force has ISIS gone up against to this point? If I have a damn about them, I’d almost feel sorry for any ISIS going against them. Part of me does wonder, though, if ISIS is that strategically stupid.
