Al Qaeda-linked fighters seized a large army base in a dawn attack in southern Yemen on Thursday, militants and residents said, hours after the United Nations warned that the country was on the brink of civil war.
The base in the southern province of Shabwa, housing a brigade of up to 2,000 government soldiers, fell after several hours of heavy clashes, residents and local news sites said.

to give up their weapons to al Qaeda.
America, because of the lying MSM and
the EXEMPT docile “Congress”, is soooooooo screwed.
I say we bomb the equipment we left behind and then let them fight it out to see who wins. Then if they are no agreeable to our policies we do nothing unless they threaten us or our interests.

Not Al Quaeda, that would be the Shiite Houthis. Sana’a is in Shiite territory.
Probably won’t happen as Yemen has a pretty distinct geographic split. North Shiite. South Sunni. Partly why at one time there were north and south Yemen.
You could easily get a “caliphate” in the south though, and they may decide to mess with other Muslims (yeah, there are other flavors of Islam, not just Sunni-Shia) over on the side towards Oman.
This is the reason the Marines had to leave their weapons.
Typically, American Embassies would be evacuated on an American military flight to preserve security.
Yemen is a key location on the war on terror.
Two or three C-17s could have landed and the entire embassy staff, their secret information, their weapons and vehicles could be driven right up the ramp into the cargo hold of the airplanes.
Instead , they were evacuated on an unsecured Yemeni airline flight?
If that is the case, the Marines risked dying in a Muslim pilot motivated "Allahu Akbar!!" moment. -Tom
