When the Supreme Court rules about whether to impose same-sex marriage on the entire nation, the House of Representatives will remain mum on the subject.
House Speaker John Boehner confirmed that the Republican-controlled body will not weigh in on either side of the constitutional issue.
I dont expect that were going to weigh in on this, Boehner said at a press conference last Thursday. The court will make its decision and thats why theyre there, to be the highest court in the land.
The House's decision effectively abandons the legal field to federal institutions that support the redefinition of marriage.
Boehner's newfound neutrality contrasts with the House's past actions. The House's Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group spent $2.3 million offering legal support for the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) when that law went before the High Court in 2013.
Boehner's remarks came nearly one month after the Obama administration, which successfully lobbied the High Court to overturn a key provision of DOMA, said it will file an amicus brief in these two cases, as well.
The Supreme Court has announced that it will soon hear several cases raising core questions concerning the constitutionality of same-sex marriages, Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement on January 16. As such, we expect to file a friend of the court brief in these cases that will urge the Supreme Court to make marriage equality a reality for all Americans.

Now that’s homo-phobia!
I’m still batting 1,000....
It’s a State’s Rights issue. The feds and Supremes should not even be involved!
John the Boehnless Rooster and his Poltroons.
Well, short of fundamental cultural revolution there is only way out of this, a constitutional amendment. Where would it begin?
Somehow I knew Boehner would fail us again.
Bingo.
States, and the feds, and the courts, have an absolute duty to protect marriage. That’s the only “right” they have.
Marriage is the foundational building block of our society, and our form of self-government, and our laws governing contracts and property rights, and our duty to protect children and to secure the Blessings of Liberty to our Posterity.
To destroy marriage and the natural family is to destroy this free republic.
Somewhat of a tangent here... If the matter is with the Supreme Court why does Cheeto have to say anything on the matter? If the House voted on this, they’re done right?
Boehner is actually a Democratic.
So Boehner, how much are you being paid to fold like a cheap suit?
The GOPe doesn’t even put up token fights any more
What a pu$$y!
” Marriage is the foundational building block of our society, and our form of self-government, and our laws governing contracts and property rights, and our duty to protect children and to secure the Blessings of Liberty to our Posterity.
To destroy marriage and the natural family is to destroy this free republic.”
And they are DOING it !
...and he seems to work very hard to do so, professional panzy motherf...
Might as well vote Democrat.
Regardless that the House has read the Constitution out loud at the beginnings of the 2011, 2013 and 2015 legislative sessions, Boehner is still evidently refusing to uphold his oath to protect and defend the Constitution by clarifying the following about the so-called constitutionality of gay marriage with a single-sentence statement like the one below.
Since the states have never amended the Constitution to expressly protect gay marriage, the states are free to make 10th Amendment-protected laws which prohibit constitutionally unprotected gay marriage, as long as such laws dont unreasonably abridge constitutionally enumerated rights.
We just need to elect a good Republican like Jeb, so he can appoint more Souters, Kennedys and Roberts. THEN all will be well.
I actually don’t have a problem with this. What I have a problem with is that you could take out the word ‘marriage’ from his statement, put the statement on a piece of greaseboard, and put a blank where the ‘marriage’ word used to be and then fill that blank in with whatever Conservatism holds dear.
Unless its about helping Congress connected companies to do business with the FedGov, he’s not interested.
In fact, with VERY few exceptions, the 625 members of Congress (House and Senate) is essentially one big USG approved vendor list.
The Republican “advisers” are practically ALL GAY...given that, should anything less be expected of the leaders?
