Obama Might Give Guantanamo to Russians
Voxxi ^ | February 5, 2015 | Jaime Suchlicki

Posted on 02/05/2015 11:23:05 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

President Barack Obama’s eagerness to cut deals with Cuba at almost any cost could yield a “strategic disaster” in which the Russian military winds up controlling Guantanamo Bay, Cuba scholar Jaime Suchlicki told “MidPoint” host Ed Berliner on Newsmax TV.

The historic re-start of diplomatic and economic ties with Cuba ordered by Obama does not alter the fact that the communist nation’s rulers neither want nor feel they need improved relations with the United States, said Suchlicki, director of the Cuban Institute at the University of Miami.

Just look at all the demands issued by Cuban leader Raul Castro, said Suchlicki: a handover of Guantanamo Bay; ending the embargo; embargo reparations to the tune of $2.5 trillion, and no U.S. “interference” in Cuban policies at home or abroad.

“If the Cuban government was interested in helping the Cuban people they would’ve done a deal with the United States many years ago,” said Suchlicki. “Neither [previous Cuban leader] Fidel [Castro] nor Raul are really interested in better relations with the United States.”

The Castros want concessions, not relations, he said, and Raul is “raising the bar so high that he’s going to preclude any normalization.”

How much Obama will indulge him should be a concern, said Suchlicki, alluding to a prisoner swap that freed Cuban spies — a deal that even Hillary Clinton said she opposed as Obama’s Secretary of State.

But on another key demand, “giving away Guantanamo — this president is liable to do that,” he said of Obama.

Castro, in turn, would “probably” turn the territory over to Russia as a naval base.

Pressed by Berliner on this scenario, with its overtones of the Cuban missile crisis, Suchlicki said, “I don’t know what the president can get away with,” meaning the political limits, if any, on Obama’s willingness to placate Castro.

“My concern is that Guantanamo is one of the deepest harbors in the Caribbean — ideal for submarines,” he said. “And if Cuba were to turn that base [over] to the Russians, or tell the Russians that they can use that facility, it would be a strategic disaster for the United States.”

If Guantanamo becomes a Russian base, it will be a very bad thing. It would be a massive mistake.

I knew the imperialist Russians were back on the scene the minute I heard Obola was sucking up to the Cubans.

If Russia attacks from Cuba, DC will fall first. Think about that. Also consider the Smith-Mundt Act of 1948
that was over turned. Propaganda?

You know, I don’t think folks will ever wake up to this guy. You don’t see widespread anger at the destruction of U. S. Jobs. I don’t think people are strategically aware any longer. It’s very strange to me, but the middle class was gutted and not a whimper out of it during the process.

This will go much the same until Russia or another entity has the U. S. so hogtied, it can’t lift a finger to help anyone, let alone itself.

Man, when the U. S. isn’t there to stop trouble around the world, it’s going to get very ugly.

We are become as the Jews of 1930’s Europe.

All the evidence, the statements, the speeches and warnings were there that they were going to be exterminated.

They refused to believe what was happening to them, and walked themselves right onto boxcars for death camps and/or walked themselves above trenches they were summarily machine-gunned into.

We are no different.

We hide behind a false belief that such a thing cannot happen here and that if all else fails, the Second Amendment will save us.

A gun in the hand is useless when you have no willpower to pull the trigger.

America has a fatal case of Normalcy Bias and it refused to believe that the entire country is being sold-out by their leaders to our enemies for the purpose of our destruction.

Pefect photo of JFK. While many had their problems with JFK's policies, I remember he faced down the entire Soviet Union during the Cuban Missle Crisis. He may have missed on the Bay of Pigs, but that didn't deter him from his dutuies to keep Soviet missles our of Cuban territory. That's as huge as it gets.

The interesting thing about JFK the Democrat, we was actually right of all todays Democrats and many Republicans.
JFK was actually a war hero and knew what it meant to confront your enemies. He rose to his destiny, after Soveit theat and went on to promote a man on the moon. He had huge ideas. I often wonder what more good he could have done if not assinnated.

Since Robert Kennedy was in the same vein, I also wonder what good he could have done. They killed him also and left us with Teddy Kennedy who was a waste of vision, not to menion going hard-core left.

What a waste of two fairly conservative Constitutitional believers.

“It would be a massive mistake.”

Doubt it would be a mistake. It would be completely intentional.

"Life at hard labor in Fort Leavenworth.

No, a cell at the Marion, Illinois supermax.

A. He signed an EO that he gets eternal SS protection, apparently, even after he's dead. What would be safer than a 6x6 cell, 23 hours a day, for perhaps 200 years? Perhaps with the Wookie in a cell next door.
B. There is no one on the entire planet more important than he is. Since I can't see any other solution, make sure he has a room to himself, so total isolation. Perhaps we could put mirrors on all four walls so The Great Lord can be surrounded be a crowd of himself.

Just trying to help.
