Where does economics fit in?
Duh............
/Millennials
No, not really.....
That is a social science. (A science that has no hard data or absolute facts like geology, physics, or chemistry)
Well its nice to know I am smarter than an educator...never would a thunked it.
If you fail as an economist, you get hired by Obola immediately. But ONLY if you can liea bout your failure.
If you fail at engineering, you get fired.
If you fail at teaching,
1. Nobody finds out.
2. Nobody cares.
3. Nobody fires you. hell, nobody LETS you get fired!
You could turn around the quality of teaching STEM in secondary schools very quickly if we had access to this pool. Unfortunately, we never will, because the unions are very much afraid of what would happen if we did.
Those can’t teach, teach Phys Ed.
You’re kidding, right?
My son is way smarter than I am (in IQ). He’s going into Psychology, Theology, etc. Will probably end up being a preacher.
I got a degree in geophysical engineering.
Although I make a decent living. But, he’s smart enough, I’m guessing (hoping!) that he’ll be successful in what ever he does.
My older brother got a degree in pyschology - he’s pretty bright, and richer than God.
Have you ever heard the term "quant"?
I was a major in hunting and fishing and managed to get a degree in Biology with minors in history, sociology, education, and psychology. The A grades in the non science fields helped me graduate in 3 and 1/2 years.
Hey! Zero's not so bad at hiring economists to lie for him. It worked great in 2009 and 2010.

Numerous studies done by who? Sociology majors?
Do t take them seriously, please
Philosophers can become rich. Either Thales (or Pithocrates) became rich after a challenge that philosophers couldn’t become rich because they just thought about things. He proved them wrong by using his logic to corner the market on olive presses.
Steve Martin is also rich, and a philosopher, although I think his use of logic was to become rich by showing how stupid we can be.
I’ve worked with a fair number of not-so-bright aerospace engineers and a few brilliant ones as well. Use your brain to gauge one’s intelligence, not the decision someone made when they were 18.
Have you ever called in sick and then watched the commercials during daytime t.v.? It’s hilarious what crap they’re selling. Cooking schools. Technology(?) schools. Online degrees from some state school that’s 2,000 miles away. Medical/Dental Assistant schools. I’m in the wrong business.
I used to agree with you 100% until I tried it. Now it's about 90.
There is some real value in "Education" courses. After pitching "math" at the local Community College, I can see that the factual knowledge, while absolutely necessary and sadly lacking, is not quite the whole story. Teaching is a trade like any other and does require a bit of training and experience.
Of course, as you say, one needn't spend 24 "college credits" acquiring it, I'd say one practical teaching course and a bit of coaching over one term should do it for an already technically trained person.
The "Education" majors that infest every public school are indeed very dumb. E.G., I have substituted at high schools at which the "Spanish" or "French" teacher would have a very hard time getting a glass of water in Spain or France, the "Social Studies" teacher did not know how many Senators each state has, and Al Sharpton could be your kid's "English" teacher. It goes without saying that the "teachers" are usually all as Left Wing Nutty as they come and many feel that they ought to dress like their students!
One more point in re: several retired engineers and physicists
OK ... I guess. But it took me quite a while to recover from shock and awe at how bad things have gotten!
