The cost of leaving Islamic State: Death or jail

TUNIS, Tunisia (AP) — The man stands furtively on a street corner near the broad avenue cutting through Tunis, his face masked by a hoodie, his tense eyes scanning the workday crowd for any hint of Islamic State militants.

He was one of them before he left Syria, only a year ago, and he is afraid.

Now he chain-smokes as he describes the indiscriminate killing, the abuse of female recruits, the discomfort of a life where walls were optional and meals were little more than bread and cheese or oil.

“It was totally different from what they said jihad would be like,” said the man, Ghaith, who asked to be identified by his first name only for fear of being killed.

While foreigners from across the world have joined the Islamic State militant group, some arrive in Iraq or Syria only to find day-to-day life much more austere and violent than they had expected. These disillusioned new recruits soon discover that it is a lot harder to leave than to join. Even if they escape, they are trapped in limbo, considered a threat by both their former comrades-in-arms and their homelands.

If you join a gang of psychopathic cutthroats, don’t expect to have a long life expectancy.

What did this guy expect, a luxurious lifestyle? These people are primitive, cut-throat savages. Civilization is a foreign concept to them. The people who join up with them are as delusional as ISIS members are.

I mean, who says, "Hey, let's go join a ruthless, savage, death squad gang and have some fun." ?

Sometimes I wonder why this administration won’t exterminate the subhuman savages.

“The predicament for governments is to figure out whether a recruit is returning home to escape from the Islamic State or to further spread its ideals and its violence”

Not much of a predicament. If they were willing to participate in jihad, they are willing to further spread its ideals. Just because they found that jihad wasn’t the pleasant, thrilling and exhilarating experience they hoped for isn’t any reason to let jihadists back into your country.

I signed up for the beheadings, raping, slaughtering Christians, genocide against Yazidis, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt.

Has ISIS taken the place of the French Foreign Legion in the hearts of young men who have no direction or self confidence? I’m not even sure if the French Foreign Legion exists anymore or ever did in the manner it was portrayed in movies, but I used to hear about that being a way for young men to choose if they were hungry for adventure and challenge. Even still, the French F. Legion was never known for beheading and crucifying people. So just how ‘shocked’ could these recruits really be that ISIS is no ‘walk in the park’.

The French Foreign Legion is still in existence and is a fairly elite force.

I guess he thought you get the 72 virgins BEFORE you meet Allah.

“”Sometimes I wonder why this administration won’t exterminate the subhuman savages.””

I have to wonder what he would do if this barbaric army marched across our country! Would he still sit in the WH and do nothing? It wouldn’t even have to be this bunch of maggots. Say it was Americans going on the rampage like this....Would we hear excuses for the way they were raised? They weren’t potty trained right? They never got a FAIR chance? They never got the same results as those who worked harder? OH! That’s not one of the excuses used in DC - excuse me. Even if it was an ARMY from across our southern border. WHAT WOULD HE DO?
