Is Mike Huckabee Right About Being Gay?
Pajamas Media ^ | 02/03/2015 | Stephen Green

Posted on 02/03/2015 9:23:53 AM PST by SeekAndFind

“It’s not my cup of tea.”

The former Arkansas governor and probable presidential candidate compared homosexuality to drinking and swearing on CNN:

“People can be my friends who have lifestyles that are not necessarily my lifestyle. I don’t shut people out of my circle or out of my life because they have a different point of view,” Huckabee told CNN’s Dana Bash, while deflecting a question about whether he believes being gay is a choice.

“I don’t drink alcohol, but gosh — a lot of my friends, maybe most of them, do. You know, I don’t use profanity, but believe me, I’ve got a lot of friends who do. Some people really like classical music and ballet and opera — it’s not my cup of tea,” Huckabee said.

Whether or not Huck is right that being gay is a choice — and the building scientific consensus on human sexuality seems to be “it’s complicated” — he is right on a broader point. You can find something distasteful or even wrong, without advocating laws against it. And he’s also correct that just because something is legal doesn’t that everybody must be legally required to support it:

“I’d like to think that there’s room in America for people who have different points of view without screaming and shouting and wanting to shut their businesses down,” he said. “What worries me in this new environment we’re in, it’s not just that someone might disagree, they don’t want to argue with me, even take a different point of view. They want to close someone’s business down.”

Bingo. But Progressivism is a jealous god, which brooks no dissent from its narrow orthodoxy.

This is what’s called trying to have your cake and eat it too. It remains to be seen how he can thump a bible respectably whilst simultaneously condemning these heathen proclivities.

He can f@ck himself for all I care.

I have no problem with homosexuals doing anything they want.

I have a big problem with government granting homosexuals special rights and forcing me to bake cakes for them and wipe their wahoo apertures.

Except that the gays will accept nothing less than mandatory participation by all in the celebration of their perversion.

Time-Lies-Warner-Turner-CNN didn’t press candidate Obama on homosexuality in the 2007-2008 election cycle. Of course not, he needed the church going black vote.

Barry told his homosexual supporters in San Fransisco (at a private fundraiser) that he would have to shuck and jive in the election to get the votes of those in flyover country who cling to religion. A wink and a nod that he was still going to advance their agenda.

Being queer, drunk, stupid, foul-mouthed and a few others ... isn't a point of view

It is initially a choice, cemented by habit, into a lifestyle

It is not an intellectual excersize

Everything you DO is a choice.
If you are born with 6 fingers you have 6 fingers.
If you CHOSE to have one surgially removed then you have 5 fingers.
One is a fact of your conception one is a choice you decide to make. You may be born with a gene that makes you susceptible to alcoholism. You can chose to be an alcoholic or you can chose to not act on that susceptabilty.

Our real guide, as always, is Jesus.
Did Jesus drink to excess?
Did Jesus gamble with money?
Did Jesus act like a normal male and engage in pre-marital sex?
No. Jesus practiced what He preached and remained sexually pure throughout his adult life.
Huckabee is trying to be seen as a viable presidential candidate who can win the ‘moderate vote’. He is also trying to be liked.

Swearing is evil.

Drinking is one of those Baptist hangups. Consider the context. Huck is being tone deaf here about other Christian viewpoints, but it’s pretty sure given the context he also has sin in mind.

RE: Swearing is evil.

As long as Huckabee isn’t trying to use government to criminalize it ( and he isn’t ), he’s free to preach anytime he wants.

And people are free to ignore it or argue with him.

That’s what the First Amendment is all about.

Wahoo apertures - that’s a new one and going in my dictionary.

I agree. It’s not my place or the government’s to be involved in this issue other than granting homosexuals the same rights as anyone else. Other than that, it’s none of my concern, care, or business.

I see the government forcing churches to do a same sex marriage, however, and we have a problem. A BIG problem, and I’m not even a Christian.

I believe there is a snap about this particular “big problem” down in Houston right now.

the building scientific consensus on human sexuality seems to be “it’s complicated”

Typical liberal response. To a liberal, any issue being 'complicated' allows all responses to be OK.

I don't watch enough CNN to know if swearing on CNN is a big problem, but Huckabee is crazy to compare it to homosexuality. You can always change the channel.

His implication that drinking alcohol is inherently as bad as homosexual behavior is idiotic. The Bible clearly and unmistakably condemns homosexual behavior, both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament. It doesn't condemn the consumption of alcohol per se. Jesus was taunted by his enemies as a "wine bibber." He turned water into wine at the wedding feast at Cana when a lot of the guests were probably already drunk--enabling them to get drunker and the ones that were still sober possibly to get drunk (none of them were about to drive a car). The Bible is critical of habitual drunkenness, but to every thing there is a season.

Something that requires a written contract to perform work should be at the discretion of the business owner, regardless of reason. That is different than not serving something already made because of prejudice.

Should a Jewish baker be required to make a cake celebrating Hitler’s birthday?
Should a gay photographer be required to photograph the wedding of an outspoken anti-LGBT critic?

...you could go on with a 1000 crazy examples. Forcing somebody to engage in contractual work is just a form of forced servitude. It is compelled speech. It violates freedom of religion and the free exercise of it.
