"....the onus is on the girls to make sure the boys don't have unclean thoughts"
Shame that Slut for tempting the high school boys
If a boy would have worn it, the ACLU would be filing a lawsuit by now
The school had a very clear dress code for the prom and shoulder straps were to be a minimum of 2”. Yes that seems like a lot but if the school was not that specific you would have gotten spaghetti straps and even strapless cause teens do like to push the envelope.
Her dress is lovely but she knew the rules and could have brought along a light matching shawl. It is ridiculous that a news station thinks her complaint is worthy of attention. Based on what the girl said, you can bet she knew she was breaking the rules and wanted to challenge the school. She probably will be the guest of honor at the next “Slut Walk” for her bravery at refusing to be sexualized. What B.S.
I drove my son up to a high-school dance and saw a bunch of the girls walking in.
“So - did some of the guys hire hookers?” He laughed.
That dress is gorgeous and entirely appropriate for a school dance. Good grief! With what’s out there these days, “bare shoulders” are the least of our worries. If ONLY most 16 yr olds had the sense and taste of this young woman. Boo-hiss on the sad sack who scolded her.
Of coure the next day she will be forced to listen to the joys of gay sex in "Health" class.
Yahoo is garbage.
They also destroyed the Community Contributor opportunity where aspiring writers get their start and have their work exposed. Go figure, their search engine results suck too.
Adolescent immaturity at it’s finest. Challenging for the sake of challenging, not for any real reason.
Because, in some ways, we have our own American Taliban who think bare female shoulders are somehow threatening.
I guarantee you they would have zipped their lips and said nothing.
I don’t know about that.
I stood up to “authority” in high school when the “official” was wrong. We all don’t have to be sheep and do whatever we’re told even if wrong or someones whim.
Whuh?
She looks fine.
Who is the idiot prude that approved her exclusion because of a dress that, to me, harkens to the days of 40’s, 50’s and 60’s?
Someone was definitely born in the wrong Century and anyway, I thought Warren Jeffs was still in prison.
I just did and I have just learned that Joel Grey is Gay. That’s Cabaret my friends =)
Amen.
Typical .. if she knew the rules .. she should have complied with them. She has no excuse.
“Im telling you, this dress would have passed muster with our Jesuits and the nuns back when I was in high school.”
Last time I checked, Jesuits were followers of Christ. ‘Tis likely the girl was shamed (harrassed, too) by a Mormon who followed Smith.
This is an example of why what the English call “First Principles” matter.
Jesuits & Bible v. Mormons & Book of Mormon.
It’s a lovely dress.
If class envy is a factor, the fact that she bought the dress when visiting Paris would only add to the level of envy. It’s possible. And pathetic.
